PhilA Posted June 11, 2023 Author Posted June 11, 2023 Ran out of light. Got that bit put in. Uncle Jimmy, BlankFrank, Dyslexic Viking and 2 others 5
danthecapriman Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 Great seeing this coming back together. Some lovely fabrication and welding too👍 PhilA 1

PhilA Posted June 11, 2023 Author Posted June 11, 2023 Took a look in the light this morning, noticed in my haste to get finished last night I put too much heat in and warped the flat section. I'll make a couple slices to relieve that, flatten it out and weld up. BlankFrank, CGSB, Dyslexic Viking and 1 other 4
PhilA Posted June 11, 2023 Author Posted June 11, 2023 Chop chop. Weld weld, paint. I'm calling that center portion done now. LightBulbFun, timolloyd, Rust Collector and 6 others 9
PhilA Posted June 11, 2023 Author Posted June 11, 2023 More metal. Basic shape of the footwell in. LightBulbFun, danthecapriman, Tickman and 7 others 10
PhilA Posted June 13, 2023 Author Posted June 13, 2023 Fettled the panel to fit in the hole. Bit more shaping to go, then beat some stiffening ribs in. somewhatfoolish, danthecapriman, Tepper and 5 others 8
danthecapriman Posted June 13, 2023 Posted June 13, 2023 I thought you were supposed to just self tapper a load of old license plates over the holes on American cars!? No… Looking great!👍 bunglebus and PhilA 1 1

PhilA Posted June 15, 2023 Author Posted June 15, 2023 Marked up and started to beat the ribs into the footwell panel. Phil Dyslexic Viking, somewhatfoolish, Zelandeth and 3 others 6
PhilA Posted June 16, 2023 Author Posted June 16, 2023 Need to adjust it slightly but that's better than it was danthecapriman, RayMK and Dyslexic Viking 3
PhilA Posted June 17, 2023 Author Posted June 17, 2023 I have a passenger side floor now. Phil cort1977, GrumpiusMaximus, Zelandeth and 9 others 12

PhilA Posted June 18, 2023 Author Posted June 18, 2023 Scrubbed up and cut the two holes into the footwell. Little more to do yet, but that's mental progress, if nothing else. Phil Andyrew, RayMK, danthecapriman and 4 others 7
PhilA Posted June 19, 2023 Author Posted June 19, 2023 Been sitting thinking about the known faults list, and what I need to do. 1) Finish floor pan. Driver's side footwell and rear passenger footwell. 2) Scuttle. Requires windshield removal, in order to pull the dash out and get up behind. Also, clean up and protect firewall. 3) Center of trunk floor. Fairly self explanatory. 4) Rear window aperture 5) Rear quarters 6) Outer portion of trunk floor, to line up with rear quarters 7) Deck lid aperture, driver's side has been badly repaired 8. Hood hinge points 9) Front wheel arches, both have gone in the same place, rust trap. Also remove inner arches and fix firewall on heater box. Once that's all done, then fixing up the dashboard, heating/cooling, electrical etc can begin. danthecapriman, Rust Collector and Dyslexic Viking 3
PhilA Posted June 20, 2023 Author Posted June 20, 2023 Scrubbed the metal down. Not bad, think a couple patches should do it. I reckon that'll make it right. Dyslexic Viking, Crackers, LightBulbFun and 4 others 7
PhilA Posted June 20, 2023 Author Posted June 20, 2023 Made a hole. Created the small infill panel, which was awkward because it's a double compound curve. Then it started to rain. Now the electricity is out. mercedade, danthecapriman and RayMK 3
PhilA Posted June 22, 2023 Author Posted June 22, 2023 Got rained on. Made the rest of the infill panel. I'll trim that to size and weld in if the weather holds. somewhatfoolish, mk2_craig, RayMK and 4 others 7
PhilA Posted June 22, 2023 Author Posted June 22, 2023 Had just long enough before the skies opened to weld this in. At least it'll cool off nicely. CreepingJesus, RayMK, Dyslexic Viking and 4 others 7
PhilA Posted June 24, 2023 Author Posted June 24, 2023 Rear of the footwell time. Chopped the rusty bits out and fabbed up some replacement sections using hammer and vice. Continued making the simpler bit up, then the other shaped piece on the far side. Welded it all in. That's good because that is now this side of the car almost completed. danthecapriman, CreepingJesus, Stanky and 13 others 16
PhilA Posted June 24, 2023 Author Posted June 24, 2023 Dressed the welds back. Looks good FACTREE LightBulbFun, danthecapriman, cort1977 and 12 others 15
PhilA Posted June 25, 2023 Author Posted June 25, 2023 Pleasant today (barring it being 36°c with a heat index of 41°). Decided to make use of the afternoon and do a little metal work. I had thought about making a few patches for the floor, photographing my method to show, so began on the driver's side front footwell. I undid the cover plate over the parking brake cable in the corner because there was a fair bit of rust I wanted to clean up and inspect. I carried on up with the wire wheel. Yup, the low cholesterol, fat free substitute named I Can't Believe It's Not Metal™. Blobbed in like nice weld and painted over. Continued cleaning up, fought with the throttle pedal bracket which will only come out once the heater box is out; great design. Cleaned it up and concluded the general level of half-assedness was consistent enough to warrant me removing the panel, cleaning up, making repairs and putting it back in properly. Not today though. Had enough. Phil Saabnut, danthecapriman, captain_70s and 11 others 13 1
PhilA Posted June 27, 2023 Author Posted June 27, 2023 Pulled hard and this fell off. Not hugely bad. Got a couple places to make up some patches and it can then go back in. Phil danthecapriman, mercedade, Tepper and 3 others 6
PhilA Posted June 28, 2023 Author Posted June 28, 2023 Took the gas pedal off because it looked like a Jackson Pollock. Took it apart and cleaned it. Better now. Shame the bottom rubber section has fallen off, but it is what it is. Phil danthecapriman, Tepper, Dick Cheeseburger and 10 others 13
PhilA Posted June 28, 2023 Author Posted June 28, 2023 Cleaned up the underside of the footwell. Makes it easier to see where it needs repair. Trying to figure what the gas pedal arrangement is actually meant to look like. Pretty sure it's not meant to be a hole. Phil RayMK, danthecapriman, Tepper and 3 others 6
PhilA Posted June 29, 2023 Author Posted June 29, 2023 It's rusted in weird ways. Oh well, that can be fixed. Tepper, Fumbler, Dyslexic Viking and 4 others 7
