Mr Jones, 39, said he had even paid £60 for a damaged coffin and had fitted it with alloy wheels and a sound system.

When my time comes, I hope that I will be despatched in a casket with that specification :)

When he comes to collect it, maybe the owner could dress as the Grim Reaper, spend a while walking around the street, almost walk down someones drive then stop and carry on walking around for a bit before eventually getting in and driving off.

So the hearse owner runs http://www.whipstreet.co.uk/ ?

We should get him on here I reckon!

Whip Street is ran by two young brothers, Been there a few times, Not much to get excited over though there whenever i go, Just half a dozen ex taxis and Mondeo's, It's not like a old school scrappy with loads of cars piled up everywhere sadly.

Which bit of Whip St's yard did you go to Trigger? There is/was the yard in town, I remember going there with my dad in the early-80s and being amazed to see a Chrysler Alpine in there (then quite a new car). They seemed to concentrate on metal down there though. Then there's the bigger yard out at Paper Mill Lane. It used to be quite a good place, but did seem to have gone downhill when I last went. Geoff Baker (aka one half of banger racers Farina Dreamers) ran the place I think.Amusing to read a bit of local news on here, and to see a photo of Look East legend Ian Masters.Odd story though - what would the residents do if they happened to live near an undertaker's? Or nextdoor to a churchyard?

Sort of like the topic of this thread, I left our Mk2 crewbus in Sheffield near the other half's mam's, it had been at a shoot in Leeds. It's taxed, tested and insured. All the body bits/trim are there, and all the windows, in fact nothing missing. There are no parking regulations in the street. it was not blocking a driveway, or even opposite a dropped step. It did however have a break problem so I had to organise somebody to either fix it or fetch it. First thing was a note left by some hobby bobby saying to ring him. I did. He said the bus had been reported as abandoned. I pointed out it was taxed. All the same he said, he felt it was abandoned, the call didn't erm, go well. A couple of weeks passed....During the postal strike (unbelievably) a letter from Sheffield City Council arrived, threatening to remove the bus and DESTROY it! WFT!!!! It's TAXED. I had a very irate conversation with the person on the other end of the phone culminating in my threatening legal action if anything happened to it. I made sure that, whilst it was kept an eye on, I didn't get it moved too quickly, just to prove a point. I then sent a mate with my RAC card, and it came home, as I had a job for it!What worries me though, is what would have happened if I had not get the letter due to the postal strike? This is a vehicle that's taxed, tested insured and parked legally. It was however not brand new, so obviously despite the above was abandoned. Sorry rant. The nosey old duffers in the local press article remind me of the tossers in Gary's mam's street.,....

Fred, the same happened to me when I left my XR2 overnight on a road with no signed/marked parking restrictions. The sniffy gits in the adjacent house were evidently not impressed and contacted the cops, who left a 'warning note' including a curious extract from a court case containing a quote from the local magistrate to the effect that 'nobody has a right to park a vehicle anywhere in Jersey'...I laughed but have made a mental note to find somewhere else in future.

WTF are you supposed to do then? Pay somebody to keep driving around when you don't want to use the car? Please tell me they meant on public roads.....

Vehicles can legally be removed if the police or the council believe they are abandoned, whether or not they have current tax.Whether a visible current tax disc automatically gives the owner the right to leave it on any street for the entire length of time it is taxed is a bit of a grey area, and the attitude varies by local police force/council. But it normally only happens when somebody complains, or the vehicle is visibly f**ked, (broken windows, flat tyres, etc)

What's the point of paying the road tax then, and also in some areas a resident's permit?
