FREE SHITE STEREO - SHARP CD 304

Okay, who wants a fully working 1990 spec stereo? It's free, but if you want it, you'll have to be damned quick.

I figured if anyone might, they'll be on Autoshite.

It's mint this thing, and in full working order, My parents are having it recycled. I already have (3) stereos, so this needs to go. It has two tape decks with APSS, high speed dubbing, a CD deck, a tuner and an RP 304 turntable (not pictured) that needs a new stylus. It's an all in one system styled to look like a pile of separates.

One thing to bear in mind - because of its age, it doesn't like copied CDs of any kind. So you can sack off your Original Pirate Material, unless (ironically) you have a genuine copy.

It has a proper old fashioned illuminated sound meter that doesn't actually do anything other than bounce around, a graphic equaliser, and of course, a device for adding XTRA BASS. There's also a remote and the volume control has a servo on it, so it moves when you adjust it from afar.

Before this, my parents had a truly delirious 'one box' Sharp from the seventies. It was oblong and had a hinged lid like a record player. It housed these weird 'click touch' LED buttons that lit up when you pressed them. It also had a pair of VU meters. Sadly that broke, and was replaced with this fine piece of technology when we still lived in Sale.

Can I hold it? Yes, but only for a short time.

Alternatively I can bring it to the Yorkshire Meet at the Redbeck Hotel on Sunday

*looks over in Hirst's direction*

Seriously, take it away - it's free and deliriously shite.

Could be a doer that. If you can do the seatbelts and door handle I can keep it, er, somewhere and bring it to you in January? I'm up in Hull on the 9th rota permitting.

My parents' was like that but all black, and with more (shitloads of) LED buttons. The tape deck looks similar though.

It is bloody ace that thing though. I remember it sounded pretty good through a pair of Wharfedales....

That Sharp 'music centre' [they weren't called steroes in them days] looks just like the ITT model my parents had - the same buttons and eveything. Did electronics companies do 'badge engineering' as well?

Sharing of mechanisms, chassis and various modules has always gone on. Now it's frequently just different plastics encasing exactly the same product. But at a range of prices depending whose badge is on the front. Marketing is all these days I'm afraid.
