Found this leaflet through my letter box this morning and was amazed by some of the cars used by Slaters as examples of the cars we should be binning - A Cavailer SRI, Mk 3 Escort, classic 70's Volvo, Saab Turbo and an rare as hens teeth Opel Manta GTE!.

 

so Slaters want me to scrap my 'old banger' for a plastic world box? um, no thanks.

 

The leaflet was defaced and sent back to them Return to Sender along with some choice words.

Isn't the Cavalier SRi 130 a Vanguards model?Somewhat arbitrary choice of cars there. We never got the Volvo 142 in any kind of number, and the Manta is a custom job on ATS Cups.This was given to the work experience boy on a Friday afternoon when they were caught short.'Hey Billy, stop wanking into that biscuit tin, you're good with computers!'The cars chosen seemingly at random are more likely to provoke the ire of an honest to God shiter.I'd like to see the defaced article that you returned to them please.Verdict: Antagonistic.

Could be wrong, but the MK2 Cavalier looks awfully like the 1/43 Vanguards model rather than a picture of the actual car.In which case, if you can scrap a £15 model and get £6900 of a new car that might just be a reasonable deal.....

yeah I thought it looked like a model car too!the 'amendments' I made were along the lines of - on the back - RETURN TO SENDER AND TAKE MY NAME AND ADDRESS OFF YOUR DATABASE. - Crappage scheme is bollocks, SAVE CLASSIC CARS.on the front - Save classic cars and scrap souless, plastic modern normality.

According to that leaflet, we also need to take in a LHD Seicento too. No problem, I'll just nip to Italy and get one. Back in a bit.

These people have to make money, and anything that produces it they will try. They're the only industry apart from arms manufacturers and pharmaceuticals that have been given a massive leg up this year. Let's hope the whole thing backfires and they're left with more cars that they can't sell and the whole industry goes down the shitter, forcing a rethink on the whole 'used car' thing. I'm still considering going into a dealer and just turning my nose up on everything they offer, before laughing in their faces and leaving in my shite 30 year old car.

The "secret" is to make sure the picture's URL ends in ".jpg". Just strip off anything else.
