Got an old shitter to dispose of - probably about 1200kg. Is it worth putting it across the scales myself, or just call in the Gypos?Hard facts please, not guesses.

It really will vary from day to day and your location. I can get £85+ for cars collected from mid or East Cheshire but £60 tops from West Cheshire for example.I don't see the value in depolluting and taking cars yourself to be honest, by the time you've removed all fluids such as fuel (and some insist on even taking out screen wash), tyres, battery etc and then disposing of them it's a mare.Remove all good bits such as battery and tyres, replace with crap ones and let someone collect. Or fill the boot with the old oil in cotainers and any other old crap and superglue the lock shut.Free-ads papers usually best by the way as they seem to attract far more scrap collectors for some reason, usually all vying against each other which is better for you.

I forgot to liberally wet the interior of the last one I scrapped; if there had been enough integrity in the sills, they would have been filled with dry sand, then water...

I generally get shells taken away for free - I've never had any money for them but to be honest, a bloke with a hiab just comes along and solves a problem. For £100 it's not worth the ag. Mate with a van, trailer, diesel etc.
