Heep Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I've been photographing shite on pretty much a daily basis now for well over a year and a half and I still feel conspicuous doing it. I try to be as quick and discreet as possible - and if there's people hovering about I often walk on past and come back later, though that has led to the heartbreak of the car then being gone. I've been seen by owners a couple times, but I didn't realize until I was already moving away. I've only been questioned once after I took a shot of a Volvo lorry's engine while the bonnet was open. The truckie saw me and asked why I was taking pictures of his truck. I just nervously blurted out "'Cause I like trucks" and he just smiled and said "Oh. OK." I generally don't like shooting cars parked in driveways, but I do it anyways if the subject is good enough, and always from the street/pavement. I did actually trespass onto the driveway once before to get a better look at something exceptional but I haven't the foggiest what it was now. Currently considering doing it again this week or next if I see that '84 Oldsmobile Firenza hatchback parked again....... I think I've only asked permission once before, at that Simca/Matra/Talbot garage in France I stopped at while on honeymoon. My bilingual wife had to ask for me, lol, but the guy was friendly and let me shoot whatever. I've wondered if people would have a different (better) attitude if they saw me "artistically" shooting a car with a DSLR as opposed to discreetly snapping with a point-n-shoot.
Guest Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Having a big black ugly "pro-look" camera makes taking pictures a doddle, no one ever seems to question it. It's great!

Guest Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 In terms of your right to take photos, if you are one public property you can do what you like.A newspaper company in Leicestershire still has a fleet of Metro vans. They wont let me take pics of them even on the street outside
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 It's a newspaper company. Buy the biggest telephoto on sale and then photograph their Metro vans while hiding in a tree five miles away. Then attempt to sell them the pictures.
Guest Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Walk down public roadTake out cameraTake pictures of cars (metro vans) parked on streetWalk awayThats how alot of mine have been done . The reception faces the road/carpark so you get collered fast I have asked why not but they wont say
Milford Cubicle Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 That "Broadworks" place Richard and Tayne posted photos of looks nice. I've been asked to delete photos twice, the first time I "lost" my memory card, second time I did delete them. Like Richard says, they can easily be recovered and it's not worth the hassle arguing over it.
Milford Cubicle Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I know, I've visited it several times since 2006. I've never seen that porno door though! Phwoar.

It's great!Or Hi-Viz, clipboard & pen Ah, yes the power of "authoritative" invisibility As found in any good "urbexers" kitOne of my other "hobbies" involves old buildings and taking snaps of them I recall the only time I have been questioned about taking snaps (of cars*) was in Merthyr Tydfil where I wanted to take this great shot of an abandoned smashed up school and run down working mens club next door. Sadly, to ruin it I had a row of crap modern cars in the foreground. This fat, fucking chimp from some shit carpet shop came running (i.e rolling) out balling and screaming about me taking pictures of his car and asked what I wanted them for. When I asked what it had to do with him, what car was his and would he like to remove it from private property not belonging to him he then informed me it was the silver Vitara....My reply was "why the fuck would I want a picture of a hairdressers hairdryer", something he took offence to me labelling his pride and joy. When things got heated I almost ended up mashing him in the fishface with my tripod because the thick cunt couldnt mind his own business and fuck off and sell some shit carpets. That reminds me I have to go back and take some pictures of said Vitara and shit carpet shop. Watch this space *Had plenty of other incidents of irate landowners telling me to cock off from private property
barrett Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Great shots of that place on yr flickr Tayne, I wish there was some decent places for a bit of UrbEx round my way, but there's nothing really. few mates of mine made a great film in Cane (cain?) Hill, a victorian mental hospital, a few years back but i've never done anything like that myself. One day...
Milford Cubicle Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Cane Hill.Where do you live barrett?
barrett Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Brighton.....hardly the industrial centre of Britain, so not much stuff like that round here.
Pillock Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Where's Cane Hill then? Here, near Croydon. It's one of the most Urbex'ed sites around, which is a bit of an issue when you're trying to be original with the pictures, on the upside if you're caught there they're unlikely to deal with you too harshly, since they catch people every single weekend.Probably one of the best sites for more information on Cane Hill is Urbex|UK, the site that got me interested in Urban Exploration. It's not a forum like 28DL (which in itself is fascinating), but just one guys record of explorations. As such there's a lot more history to each site, he's been back to Cane Hill a number of times.
Milford Cubicle Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 It's mostly gone now apart from the very well secured admin building, tower and chapel.Cane Hill was the other place where I was asked to delete photos by the police, they used to be harsh on explorers and it was never the easiest of places to get into - once demolition started I believe it became a lot easier though.
