wanted : loan of an engine crane or block & tackle

this time last week, I was idly pondering the idea of building an Exocet kit car based on mx5 mechanicals - fast forward a few days and I find myself with a very sorry looking mx5 carcass in the garage - three days of solid spannering have got me to the point where I'm ready to lift the shell off the running gear and my plan to use jacks and axle stands has rather come unstuck - they are simply not high enough :(

so if anyone in the North East area has a spare engine crane or a block and tackle they wouldn't mind me borrowing for a wee while, I would be very happy to furnish you with reward beers

thanks in advance,

mark.

Think you can get a 1 ton block and tackle for abut 30 quid off eBay/Amazon? That should be plenty to get the shell off a MK1 mx5.

I've got one here along with an engine stand your welcome to for as long as you need it. I might be a bit further away from you but if your stuck its here.

In pre covid times you just needed three "yoofs" to lift the body off a MX5.

My neighbour's must love me.

I snuck over the border this afternoon and collected the worlds heaviest engine crane - many thanks to @garbaldy for his generous loan, it was great to meet you, I promise I'll look after it and bring it home soon.

Was great to meet you too and can't wait to see your project take shape.

Absolutely no rush for it back just take your time with it and thanks again for the drink you really didn't need to do that at all.

How did that poor van/civic get on then with l that weight.

I could certainly feel the weight in the back, those twisty roads round your way would be great fun in the mazda but a couple of squeeky bum moments on bends taught me very quickly to cool it with the right foot  only one cop car on the way home :)
