That 'Escort' looks good but you know that if it ever got built it would be nothing like that.

Probably end up using a Focus platform so have neutral handling, FWD, 1.6 and 2.0 petrol engines, plus a 2.0 TDCi lump, body would be far more restrained to appeal to more potential buyers, reasonably large boot to accomodate golf clubs and full of cup holders, equiped with ABS, EBD etc etc to make it heavy and less exciting.

But surely it doesn't have to be this way.

I mean look at the latest Challenger / Camaro / Mustang etc to come out of the states?

That's the way to do niche / retro sporty cars.

No it doesn't have to be like that, I just don't imagine Ford having the guts to build something really desirable like that unfortunately.I keep seeing Chargers fresh off the boat at the docks in Liverpool and they really do look stunning. If Ford could build something similar I'd be very very tempted.

That Escort was done on a cheap 3D program by someone on an internet forum, and was never done by Ford!I think the spiritual successor for the Capri needs to be more than just another Japanese inspired coupe (which they all are nowadays). If Ford brought out something similar to the Monaro and it was badged as a Capri, I would accept that 100%.

I wonder if anyone from the motoring media (exceping McQeenMachine) ever read car forums - I mean I know there are shit loads out there dealing in every marque and type of car (some even model specific like the oft lamented www.Mk2MiniMetro1.3L5doorinArcitcWhite.co.uk) but surely they offer a slightly better idea of public car buyers opinion than some spotty herbert straight out of college with Paintshop Pro and a design brief involving words like "Dynamisism, Mystisism, Energy and Vim"

I mean if any manufacturer were to produce a re manufactured Skoda Ric Rapid Coop for about the £2000 mark they would have the Autoshite web contingent sewn up!
