Ah yeah but it’s a Ford. I’m not in to the blue oval tax or the scene that goes with it.

Just cracked on with this today. I’ve removed all I need.

So while there was some rust on the inner arch, it wasn’t anything as bad as what the other part was. So some rust remover and a bit of converter…

Cut a bit of the inner sill, but then mislaid my scissors. At which point, really, I didn’t have any meaningful time left so I’ve called it a day.

On holiday from Friday, so Saturday after next is welding time.

A really rushed 10 minute summary of the last 2 pages I think.

So I’ve not made the progress I thought I would have yesterday. Like there is several non-Lada things conspiring yesterday to get in the way.

Wife’s Merc had shat its air suspension when we got back from holiday. It had been at the dealership who told her Friday it was fixed. She picked it up, drove it to the shops and nope. It’s still broken. There was a lot of fucking around Saturday morning trying to sort that while then driving her and our boy to the shops and swimming etc. So I didn’t stop doing that till about 3pm.

I said previously that I had shoulder pain that made drilling the spot welds out a bit hard. I’ve still got the pain but now I’ve numbness in the other arm, and just a collection of weird motor issues that has left me with far less power and a lack of dexterity. Typing is difficult at work, turning up at the clinic and filling out a form was hard. So I’m going through the steps there to get that all resolved. FWIW this happened to my dad and it required an operation on the neck. Never worked for him, so I hope 25+ years of medical advancement means if I need it that it works!

That aside, I did make some sort of replacement panel. I’ve no photos as I forgot to take them, but basically I was halfway through making the replacement for the top part of the arch I cut out. I will make the lower part which joins the sill separately.

This morning Lada Power had full replacement outer arches for my Lada at about £40 each. I’ve bought two of them and they’ll be here in 10/15 days apparently.

I seem to recall from a few years ago someone had a list of what other bits fitted to a Lada ie sills, arches etc..

just shaking the old sawdust to try and remember what site was!!

stick with the K series - but drop the Turbot from a 75 on it, turned up obvs..or even go the VVC route

Can't wait to see this finished..

Oh and BTW - That new Care home is a right state, makes that island even worse...

So what I’m led to believe, but I need to re-read it, is that all the K Series engines use the same block (1.1 through to 1.8). The differences are down to liners, rods and pistons. So while the one I have is a 1.6 block I can make it a 1.8 (or a 1.4) by just buying the 1.8 rods and pistons. I think anyway, I’ve not looked at it.

Once it fits, if it fits, then I can look at doing it NA. VVC heads are mega expensive, the only way I’d get a reasonable priced one would be to buy an MOT failure that had it in. We will see though.

As for that care home, it’s ridiculous. Sad as it is, looking at the million other care homes down that road there’s never any visitors to them. So I doubt it’ll get worse than it is. Not happy that it’s a dementia home though, given the proximity to the busy road etc. I can well see one of them wandering out in to the road and getting flattened there.
