Wave Goodbye To Engine Transplants!

Most of this is required anyway when insuring stuff with an engine transplant. As far as the "headed paper" declarations are concerned, I'm sure most blokes who mess about with this kind of thing [i.e rodders, and kit car builders] are on good enough terms with someone who can do the necessary.

Its been the case for six months or so that a letter was required confirming the new engine. There's no other issue. Insurers would want to know what you'd done anyway. That's rather a scare mongering article.

Yeah, you've always needed an engineers report, otherwise you could toddle down to the post office to tax your Rover SD1 Vitesse, explain you've put a 973cc Corsa engine in it, and could you please have a years tax for £80 or whatever it is for something that big.Same with insurance, as soon as you tell them it's not the CC that they think it is, they'll want an engineers report. In my experience anyway.

The article is peddling a load of uninformed bollocks. As usual. When I spoke to the DVLA about the Ginetta's up-engined-ness (not done by me, but that engine is due to be replaced anyway). They said I needed a letter from a garage confirming the fact that a new engine had been fitted.I spoke to a friendly local and they siad they'd do it for me for a few quid. It really doesn't matter.

If you are putting an engine that was originally fitted to the range eg replacing a 1300 with a 1600 you shouldn't need to get an engineers report. My Supermirafiori is an example of this. If you fit a non standard engine in such as a Rover V8 into a Mk1 Escort for example you will need an engineers report to confirm it has been done properly.

My job title is 'engineer' so if anyone wants a report, just tell us what engine you've fitted into what, and if you'll let us have a shot in it i'll make up a certificate on MS paint for you. Sorted.
