My car just got reversed into! At least the chap had the decency to knock on my door and tell me. 'Just a scuff' was how he described it!

He wants to settle privately, but I'm not sure what to do.

Do you have to report an incident to the insurance company immediately?

No, you're showing what chancer dealers will price them at and have them sat in a coner for months. It's different. And I still would not ever pay anywhere near £700 for one. A hundred quid, if I was desperate and a choice between that and sitting with peasants on the bus, maybe. I know we are supposed to revere cars like this for their underdogness and their rubbishness, but not when they cost substantially more than you can buy a PROPER car for. Sorry.

A few points.1 I chose this car. I like them and I wanted one. 2 I intentionally looked for a low mileage, FSH one with a full MOT and tax.3 I have seen plenty of these with leaky engines, knocking bottom ends, goosed clutches, rumbling wheelbearings, that have been abused by Mrs Ancient and are indeed only worth frag money.4 The cars in question for lower money, are further away, lower spec and less MOT and tax. The money you pay mounts up somehow.5 I value one person's opninion - mine. 6 This post was to discuss whether to claim on the other bloke's insurance or to accept his cash, not discuss whether I paid too much for it.I'm off to Retro Rides to sulk and talk about matt black paint.
