brammy777 Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 This link: http://www.cars.gov/files/official-information/trade-in-vehicles.pdf Is the one for the USA cash for clunkers scheme, and tells you the cars that have been traded in. Someone traded in a Bentley continental R And about 15 Merkurs and 15 Sterlings too. And about the same amount of 505s too. Now i know the scrappage scheme in this country has been ridiculed, but some of the cars on this list begger belief. I couldnt bare to look at a list for scrappage victims of this country though...........
dollywobbler Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 A handful of Austin Rovers? Is this UK?Nope. Austin-Rover did sell Rover 800s in the USA under the Sterling banner. Very rare over there so proof that even with the USA protecting their heritage (unlike us!) future classics are still very much in danger.

Steve_RS Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I'm confused. The car-sales people over there must be filling the citizen's heads full of bull-poo to make people trade some of those cars in.Madness.Also - talking of scrappage. Today I saw a mint-looking 'F' Reg Sierra Sapphire on the forecourt of some dealership with all the stickers for 2k scrappage slapped all over it. I Want a bloody sapphire! (You know, the one with the big boot) Might go in there soon acting dumb. Get some poxy sales assistant to show me around some of their cars, then... hold on... whats that over there, son? The blue one... with the stickers... that looks just what I'm after... RWD... old... a ford... she's mint! How much for that? What? 100 quid? SOLD!Might be able to save it. All I need now is 100 smack-a-roonies.

Milford Cubicle Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Hyundais? Rubbish? I think you're on the wrong forum. U R RONG
Guest Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Hyundai DOUBLE WHAMMY! Also no Daihatsu Charades were scrapped, that's quite something.
pandaselecta Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Meant crap, in the very best way. after all, if it wasnt for Hyundai, we wouldnt have the Pony
scrappylad Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I'm thinking a lot of these cars just happen to be one's that have been traded in & are not necessarily going to 'qualify' as such, for the cash for clunkers scheme. Who in their right mind would trade in an Aston Martin DB7 Volante for example?I checked on a US site to see if my daily 2.6 litre car would qualify, but it didn't as the MPG is above 19mpg. They're really trying to get the worst of the polluters off the road I think... as opposed to this country where they just want all older cars off the road - like low mileage, economical, planet saving type cars!I heard an advert for Alan Day Ford the other day saying their dealership is extending the scheme to cover newer cars up to about a 52-plate... Great ! Two grand for a car thats probably worth well over that !
Guest Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Actually yeah, what am I banging on about, of course no Charades were scrapped. They'd do better mpg than that. Ignore me.
reallyloud Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Hyundai are doing quite well out of this scrapping incentive - they were last months top selling car brand - overtaking Ford and Vauxhall with nearly 4,000 sales. I guess the i10 was the biggest seller. Love to know how well the bigger models did. 'Crack open the Vimto we've got double figures on the Sonata'.

If it is I might just come and make an offer just a little bit higher
