Listing for a mate of mine who can't use the net.1988 (E) Orion 1.4LX in red. Just ticked onto 28k - genuine miles. Full service history to prove mileage. Old man owned & garaged from new. Currently has about 10months MOT, but no TAX.Will put fresh 12Months MOT for new buyer if sold at asking price. Can guarantee it will fly through.Still rolling on the original pirellis that were fitted when new.Still got all four original wheel trims, numberplates, dealer stickers etc... in mint condition.Still has the ford paper stickers on the underside of the exhaust (yes they're still there from when it left the factory)Drives like a brand new one.The back seats have probably NEVER been used...Proper timewarp. An absolute collectors item. Mint condition. (It belongs in a museum - its that fresh) Selling due to not having a garage to keep it in. With a very small bit of TLC & polish it would EASILY be a serious concourse competitor. One of a kind. Probably the cleanest / lowest mileage orion in existance... Puts a lot of new cars to shame. Words cannot describe what this car is like to a ford-nut like me. I'm amazed by it. If I had a garage, I'd buy it!Price is £900. I know its just an Orion LX, but it really is eye-chuffingly mint. If there is anyone seriously interested in buying, I will go up and get some pics of it. But it really is in 'near-new' condition. This ideally should be garaged up and taken to shows only, rather than used daily. The value of this car is only going to rise with time.Vehicle can be taxed at buyers expense (I think it would be £60odd for 6 months - don't quote me on that though.)Regards,Steve.

Sorry - just saw this. Apologies for the previous post.

TBH - i dunno wot tax bracket it would fall in. never owned a 1.4I've owned a 1.3 escy van which was £60 odd for 6 months...and i currently drive a 1.6 orion ghia which is £100 odd for 6 months. So is anybody interested? I would honestly snap it up for my collection if had cash/garage. I know exactly where its come from, and know its genuinely mint as ford-shite could be. The only reason I can think that lets it down is the fact that it's not a ghia. Just merely an LX.

Owner rung me today asking if anyones interested? Bump for a ultra-nice old ford...

Steve, I could be interested if the car isn't too far away. Love the fact that it's a 1.4LX and not the usual 1.6 injection Ghia. Where abouts in the country are you?

Posted

Car is located in Cannock, Staffordshire. WS11(Middle of the country) - M6 J11.If you're genuinely interested, I'll have a drive up his house tomorrow and snap a few pics of it. (Granted though, my pathetic-camera probably wont do it much justice)

bah - aint got back home from work till now. will endeavour to pop round his tomorrow and get some shots of it.There probably is less orions (due to em not being THAT popular) than mk1/2 escorts (due to people scrapping them and what not) but look at the mk2 escorts. 7 or 8 years ago I could go out with £100, snoop around and probably come back with two of them. Now you'd be lucky to pay less than £1000 for a tin-wormed-shitter. Mint, low miler ones fetch in excess of £5k. It's mad how when theres not many left on the road, the price of them rockets up. If i had a garage, I'd definately have this orion off him. Like buying an investment - that'll mature in a few years time (and I'd be rescuing a fine piece of shite from the hands of the youth today - i.e big rims/badboy bonnet/lex-arse lights etc...) It kinda grieves me to not have it... lolWish people would stop scrapping old fords!Rant over.

It certainly does sound like a nice thing. I'd quite like one if I had the space / time / money......:roll:

TBH, I know £900 is probably a fair price if its as you describe, but is probably a bit rich for most people about now. Unless you try Bobs AfFORDable classics - who will probably mark it up at £2995.

Posted

I'm not interested in buying it but I'd still love to see some pics.

Posted

Well - I said I'd go and get some pics of it. But he werent in, so I just took some quick ones without it looking suspicious enough for the neighbours to ring the police... lol

Pics dont do it justice. It needs a clean. He had it valeted, then used it to drive to Wales and back, and it's looking kinda dirty.

And for any clever-clogs who are prepared to say ''theres a garage in front of it - why dont he keep it there?'' - he says the garage is already 'full'.

More to the point - pics of the old battle-axe.

Checklist:

Old man reflectors on every door - Check

Original 'Lloyds of Stafford' rear numberplate still mint - Check

Pea-Shooter at the back - Check

Oozing with 1988? - Check

Original un-colour-coded mirrors - Check

Amber front indicators - Check

Original ford wheeltrims un-scathed - Check

Under closer inspection, I think the front tyres have been replaced at some point, as they are Pirelli P3000's on the front and P4's on the back. The back ones have definately been there since it left the factory though.

Note : Pirelli P4 - check!

This is the amount of rust on the rear arch after 21 years. Could be nipped in the bud to save the original arch so long as its done soon.

...and the best bit. 28,165 miles on't clock. He's got full Ford service history to back it up, too. Got to be the lowest miler I know to. You can tell just by having a proper look around it. Pics do not do it any justice.

No comments about the dagenham dustbin? :D

I am pleased to see it sports the Ford 'MoT pass'-look, as original equipment. I had an escort with the same 'two tone' style up to the rubbing strips. GR8 4 HIDING SILL PATCHES N WAG REPAIRS.:lol:

Posted

Reminds me... My brothers friend had a white ford crapi a few years back with similar blackness up to the rubbing strips, and he did some ke-bodgery on the sills as they were dropping to pieces. After he finished he bought a few tins of that black stone-chip stuff and began to neatly cover his work. He got a little carried away with it and went over the rub-strips, so he just carried on spraying. It ended up that the whole car was black (not a nice black, but a bobbly stone-guard black), apart from the roof, which was still white. He seemed to like it, everyone else thought he was a little mental.

It's a solid looking motor but I suppose it's just a bit too normal for most of us lot to get overly enthusiastic about it at that sort of money. Is it on any Ford websites? Is the seller bothered about who it goes to/what happens when it's sold?I can see it making a decent runabout for a Ford fan.

Posted

He wants it to go to someone whose got a nice warm garage for it. And preferably isn't going to do the usual - big wheelz, sideskirts, loud zorst. (It's too good for that. And theres plenty of shitters on the market to do that with.)It would be a nice little runaround, but t'would be a damn shame to clock that mileage up further.

I'd use it for shows but I don't have £900....

It would look great next to my Escort:
