Love it Rab, nice purchase! I've got a secret thing for Vivas I think...As regards first car material, every so often I see a young lady driving hers as a daily round where I live...OT: Rab, did anything come of the Teretonga pictures and C&SC?Mark.

Very nice, you are getting quite a Viva collection going! My mate has just finished doing the body on a very rusty 2 door, he would have given his right nut for a underbody that clean

Mark..actually nothing came of the images..they said their was no story..uhm..how about amateur photographer recording all vehicular activity nationally NZ 1962...but nope..NZ Classic Car magazine have picked it up tho and ill get a feature nxt year....i thought the photos of the Lister Jaguar would be of some importance...but nah...NZ is to small and insignificant..

Salvation was ours today...picked the Pearl..a slightly rough one..took her for some air and gas and drove home...makes my other HC seem like a complete dog..tho some fine fettling will sort that out..

Pearl seems faultless..had a towing life...AM radio...which we may swap for something modern...theres not a rattle or squeak..we did buy her off a meticulous cherished owner..the guy deserves another Salvation Army medal for rescuing and counselling an old heap!..we got a txt from him later saying how sad he was to see it leave..cute eh..

Stopped in Fielding for lunch at the funniest cafe around..and in Marton we scored a Raleigh Cruiser from the Salvation Army..served by a guy wearing a Motorhead T-shirt...!..

Then home just a mo ago..

My BMX GT with modded mudguard..not pretty but i was sick of getting drippy bum..

late 70s 10spd bought locally for $30

ah, so the Cruiser is like the UK Raleigh 20. I have a huge collection of 70's & 80's bikes, mainly BMX's but a few Choppers, Grifters, racers and some nice early mountain bikes.

so..typically after a few weeks..the Pearls starter jammed..so i took it off..cleaned it..put it back on..nothing..funny that..so off again..oily man on bicycle enters auto electrician..nice old man says..its stuffed..so oily man finally goes to the resting place of his dead Viva..his mates yard..armed with handful of tools...much wrestling with jack to get the bastard up in the air so oily man can fit his anorexic frame underneath without being crushed...after some muffled screams and the use of an extra hand...now got another starter motor..

Oily man in clean stage..

Fucked off with the price of air filters..use old mattress foam and some wire netting!

Posted Image

i can still taste the sump guard..

A small reward for a minor effort..

Posted Image

what the fuck is he doing under there?

Posted Image

And theres the 1977 orange Magnum that is now totally rotten..the bonnet detached itself when we opened it..im going to offer scrap price to my mate for it..what does a Viva weigh?

Nuffin like an old Viva to lift the heart. Starter motor you say, bit late for me to suggest that the first part on the production line was a starter motor, and the rest of the car was built around it, bloody stupid job to remove one. :D

Sheet..now u tell me..ive been working in reverse then...so should i have started removing all the panels first...would have made it a damn sight easier to locate!..glad i did it yesterday cos its pishing doon today!

Is it an AC Delco starter or a Lucas? - a lot of those 1960s/70s electrical bits would be shared across several cars/manufacturers.
