Citroen BX ebay WIN - Pics, now with added shite!

No worries fella. The octopus itself isn't expensive (circa £28.00+VAT last time I got one from EuroParts) but I think fitting is somewhat of a nightmare. Without wishing to teach my grandmother to suck eggs, and bearing in mind I'm a mechanical chimp, it's probably well worth checking all the pipes that run into it/from it whilst you're there and maybe replacing them too. Also by getting someone to sit in the car whilst you look underneath (but don't get under the car) and asking them to keep moving the height corrector lever leaving it in each setting for a few seconds it should throw up exactly where it's leaking from.

All sorted. There's a pipe that goes across the engine bay right to left. That was leaking at one end. Glad I took it to the garage though as while it was in the air, they spotted that the LH strut pipe was leaking too!The pipe has just been repaired for now. I'll see how it goes in regular use.I tell you what though - it goes at a fair old lick for a non-turbo! Doesn't feel very sluggish at all, and I've been driving a BMW 5-series a fair bit this week... (which is ultimately much faster, but proves that I'm not just comparing the BX with the 2CV).

Good stuff Mr Wobbler.*Could I now request you make your way over to BXC where a private message awaits?Ta muchly.

Pleasingly though, it's proving very pleasant to drive. I've just upgraded the stereo and (like with every new car I buy) fitted a new wiper blade.

Have been commutting in my Bee Arks today and the bitches loved it. I could tell.More seriously, it's very pleasant to drive. Quick enough, super-smooth ride (though it doesn't like potholes - rather like a 2CV in that respect) and a very comfortable driving position. That blind spot mirror is starting to right-royally cheese me off though. May have to remove it!

Thought I'd better let you know how the 'win' wagon is going. On paper, two garage visits in two weeks is not good. However, the LHM now stays in the pipes and the battery actually gets charged up, so it's all good. Nowt major really.Meanwhile, when working, the BX has been very busy. Weekend before last, it dragged the 2CV to Bury St Edmunds and today, it dragged the Bond to another garage. Fortunately a close one because if you do the sums, it's probably a touch overweight...Yet it appears to take it all in its stride and returns 45mpg. I quite like it you know. Enjoy the blank canvas look while it lasts though - stickers are on their way...

As long as it's not getting turned into a crappy fake Ghostbusters thing.... :D

Nope, but the team name is Green Tiger, so there's lots of potential for looking really crap!

Posted

You've probably already mentioned it but a) I'm old and B) I like Vectras so bear with me please...Are you entering into Phil's BXAWOBBLYGONGATHONMARATHONSPECTACULAR through France in it?

Posted

Yes Billy. That was my excuse for buying it (as well as the fact I like BXs!).

If people want to donate funds to this silly mission (everything raised goes to Cancer Research UK - the trip is entirely self funded) then sponsor me via www.justgiving.com/bxagon BUT ADD A PERSONAL MESSAGE TO TEAM LL or it'll get lost. Donations for all teams are received via this one site.

Ta muchly.

Good luck mucker, expecting epic adventure style thread and no pictures of green blood running through French gutters  I'm out of touch with the teams etc at the moment, still a few going?

Posted

Eleven teams I think, but only five or six of us mad buggers doing the whole 4000kms. People seem to be taking it very seriously and taking loads of spares. I was planning to rely on luck, gaffer tape and GCSE French...

BX's are cool, my 2nd ride in one was while drunk - an interesting albeit short journey.I think you should put the link to the justgiving site in your signature. I might donate (nothing massive admittedly, see how funds are going) to it but would need to be 'reminded' about it!Cheers, Greg.

Anyway, have another pic, with moody sky and everything. And um, trailer...

Yeah ? Like where ?

Oops. Post picture FAIL. Now sorted...

Drat. The win wagon is full of lose tonight and is starting to drip LHM again. Wouldn't mind, but the stuff isn't cheap. Only a trickle so far but I guess that repaired pipe is going to need replacing before we tackle the BXagon. In just over three weeks...

Right. I've clocked up over 2000 miles in this wonderful motor car now, and it is making a stab at being reliable. It's bloody nice actually.

But, I'm having a last push for funds before departure so if you'd like to donate (funds go to Cancer Research UK) then you still have time before we leave on Saturday!

Please quote Team LL or Green Tiger in your personal message and don't worry about giving loads - a few quid can make all the difference if enough of you do it. Remember that we're paying all of our costs and I've even contributed via that link myself to show willing.

We're all gathering funds away from that site (manual sponsorship forms and the like) which explains why the total is low.

Now all that remains is to ensure that I pack everything that needs packing, pick up my co-driver and head to Dover!

£10 working it's way to you now Ian, I was going to ask you the other day what your donation website was. Good luck for the weekend!

Thanks. Looking forward to it! There'd better be lots of Franco-shite on the roads - we're avoiding autoroutes and trying to get out into the sticks. We'll see how sensible a move that is...

Have always wanted a BX of mine own - (classic reason) my Dad had one years ago and we loved it. What is it with the 'My Dad had one' thing! I'd say the majority of us on here have used that or a similar line loads! Hey Wobbler, is that a big ole mohican I saw on yr bonce a few posts ago?Keep sayin it like - but aye - there would appear to be several poorly disguised punks lurking in here! Loving it!

Posted

Um, no mohican here. Just lots of hair... (not averse to a little punk mind...)

Fair play mate - was a photo of someone on the bonnet of a 2cv in the snow i think...BTW did ye see that lowered rat-look dyane for sale over on RR? Wanted it so baaaaad...

Ah, that was John. He definitely does have a mohican. The Dyane was gorgeous and belonged to my mate Brian. I've known it for quite a few years.

We're 4 days in, with 1000 miles covered since Folkestone (1200 in total) and only a couple of problems - a brake disc shroud came loose and a coolant pipe has a split. That was 'sort-of' repaired with self-amalgamating tape but a 2400 metre climb today almost finished it off. Just about survived! Now trying to track down a coolant pipe (bottom of rad to water pump and oil cooler) as we have a day of tinkering in the south of France on Saturday. 500 miles to do before we get there...Lots of fun, lots of stunning scenery. I've uploaded some pics to Facebook but it's being a bit of a pig and my internet access is limited.
