 Is there anything, short of an Afghan terrorist armed with an AK and a chestful of dynamite, more dangerous than an old boy driving a 240? :o

Theres a couple of old men in Basingstoke with 240s, all devoid of dents. Great spots again, I love the Escorts.

I'll bet there's a shortage of bull bars and cleaning gear in Basingstoke, then.

Oh, and just noticed the window man's Escort estate (it didn't load up before). YES PLS

I saw an A reg Maestro on Minilites in Hitchin today, bugger drove away before I could get a pic of it sadly. It was beige and brown though which makes the lack of photographic proof even more frustrating!

Hmmmm....could possibly be an Escort Eclipse special edition. Available on the last of the Mk3's in 1990/91 as a run out model. Available in Flambeau Red as per pic or Bahama Blue. Had metallic, rear spoiler , snazzy wheel trims and 1300 engine. The alloys on the pic wouldn't have been standard.

I'm sure they were £7295 on the road.

Found a piccie of a blue one...looking at it reminds me that the Red ones had colour coded bumpers but the Blue ones didn't.

Posted Image

Bahama Blue was more popular and sold I reckon 5:1 against red but when the Escort Mk4 was finally launched we couldn't get enough of the Eclipses as the Mk4 was so shite.

I know we registered at least one as late as a 'J' reg.

Wasn't the Eclipse the special edition where you got "points" to spend on extras? I know there was one model like this very late in the Mk4 life, I remember having the brochure for it.You got something like 100 points - foglamps were say 30 points, rear spoiler 30, better wheeltrims for 20 and then you were onto the crap stuff like a set of mats or mudflaps for 15 points each. It was carefully worked out so everyone was desperate to "spend" all their "points", clearing out the dealers of all the chod that wouldn't bolt onto a Mk5 :) Red bumpers were made out of red plastic - not painted - but they never did blue plastic bumpers. And those wheels on the red one aren't alloys, they're the same trimz as the pikey run-out XR3i got after they cost-cut the alloys into the options table.

Incorrect on the trims there boyo. The Eclipse trims were unique, and the '3i trims were telephone dial type finished in Pearl White, and not many survived as all the 2nd/3rd owners bought alloys to fit...... Of course I could be talking absolute shite.Would like to find a set now, would suit my Sapphire.

That Escort estate's a bit of a surprise! Aren't they worth stupid money these days? He could probably sell it for more than he makes in a year cleaning windows.

What rubbish! If you own something of value, sell it immediately and waste the money on something transient. Have you not watch "cash in the twattic", FFS!?

I saw something called "Car Boot Booty" the other day and it was just as bad. Flog a load of family heirlooms for sod all at a naff car boot sale in Essex cos you want to go and see Phantom Of The Opera followed by steak, chips and peas at Garfunkels. Very odd.

Any excuse to post photo's of my old one, I bought it in 1998/99ish for £2500.

It looked like is when i got it, apart from the clear indicators.

and then i colour coded the bumpers, fitted Orion Ghia alloys and genuinely changed it into the clunge magnet.

Gentlemen if i may butt in here for a moment. The wheels on the maroon coloured Eclipse in the picture, are infact the correct wheeltrims for the car.HOWEVER, these wheeltrims were not unique to the Eclipse, and were infact shared with the xr3i, HOWEVER not the regular xr3i (whos trims are correctly described above) but the '90 spec' run out model mk4 xr3i, which also had the EFI 1.6 CVH (as opposed to the MFI system in earlier cars) and different front bumper and different cloth on the seats, and different alloys aswell if you wanted to upgrade to alloys (14" versions of the saff cossie 'lattice' type alloys) over the steel wheels.

I think that was the Escort 'Bonus' which was essentially a 'Popular'. The Eclipse was the run-out model of the facelifted mark 3 (mark 4?) Escort in 1990 - my Deputy Head/French teacher had a blue one.

Those blue colour coded bumpers look jolly nice! Should have been standard spec!!

The dusty Sunbeam's none other than a Lotus variant. The last of them took a while to shift,so quite a few cropped up on the Y plate. X reg was the run out plate for the standard Sunbeams.

They made a big difference to the car i think, I used to work in a bodyshop so I put some Plastiflex adhesive on them first, then primered them before flatting them down and then my boss painted the top coat for me.They had a nice smooth finish and transformed the car i think. Happy days.
