Techno Classica Essen 10-14 April 2019

I couldn't find a thread for this year's show, so thought I'd start one. Apologies if there's already a thread somewhere...

So, is anyone planning on going to the show?

I'm about 70% likely to go at present. I've not booked anything yet, but I was thinking of staying in Dusseldorf for the weekend (nice bars in the old town) and catching the train from there. I think Essen is 30 mins from Dusseldorf by train.

Yes I am going. Bit of a quick visit though. Flying out on Friday and back on Sunday.

I've been to the TC very often since the 90s. My impression is that it became more and more an exhibition of expensive and overpriced classics. Tickets become more expensive every year as well.

There's definitely loads of unaffordable, high-end stuff, but there's still plenty of stuff to appeal to Autoshitters as well.

Yes, especially the club-stands and parts-dealers are worth a visit. But you have to pass 287 Mercedes Sls and 173 Porsche 911 (for silly money) first. You have to search for shite-gems.

Anybody know if you can park at the event and if there are any Umwelt zones that a knackered old 90s petrol motor will fall foul of??

Last time I went, I used their park&ride which was very efficient and (IIRC) not too expensive. It was also GR11 for shite spotting.

Pretty sure petrol cars aren't an issue yet as long as they came with a catalytic converter originally.

Thanks, I tried to get one last year for Paris but couldn't for my 95 Panda.

Anybody driving from the UK?

Sort of...

I'm currently deciding how far to drive and where to stay. I'm leaning towards staying in Venlo, across the border in Holland and catching the train from there. Its a longer journey to Essen than from say Dusseldorf, but it means less driving for me Friday/Monday. I may still stay in Dusseldorf for the weekend, Im really ambivalent atm.

Is anyone going over and fancies meeting up for a beer somewhere?

Sorry, no, I'm currently in a bar in Venlo, just across the border in NL. I'm planning to catch the train to Essen earlyish tomorrow morning.

Probably a good move as Essen is not very good. But I highly recommend the Fitzpatrick pub. If you see 2 folicaly challenged Scottish guys at the show say hi.

I remember visiting Essen a few years ago and it wasn't particularly memorable, so my plan was always to stay elsewhere and catch the train.

Great show but you really need 2 days to see it all. If you can, zoom into the second pic of the car. (no the random wummin)
