I also remember that the at the launch of the Fiat Doblo car version you could specify a 1.2 model

The late 00's Fiat Brava/Bravo range had this engine added to their range and, despite being smaller, it trounced the 1.4 and 1.6 in both economy and performance...

IIRC there was a Mk2 Granada known as the 'Taxi' with a 2.3 diesel engine? I bet that could cure your insomnia...

the 1.2 in the bravo/ stilo was different to the punto/doblo 1.2.25 more bhp and 8 valves for starters.

1.8 mk3 granada anybody?

You can get a 1.2 Astra G on the continent apparently. The most the old Citroen GS's engine capacity rose to was 1.3, starting out at just 1015cc! But I suppose that doesnt count coming from a company who made the 2cv!

Has anyone mentioned the German MK 1 Granada with the 1.7 V4?,& I'm pretty sure some MK 4 Zephyrs had that engine too

1.7V4 continued - for the foren market - all the way to 1980 in the Mk2 Grandad. Zeph' aircraft carrier could indeed be purchased with the 1.7 Essex V4 - a different beast to the German Cologne jobbie - same as the Corsair, I think. 1663cc sounds about right, from memory.Anyway, going all the way back to the new Volvo S80 1.6D, I reckon that sounds pretty good value for £21.5k* for a big swanky luxobarge. IIRC, the list price on the Saab 9-3 1.9TiD (with 120bhp) I had as a company car in 2006-07 was about the same, and I know which I'd rather have had given the choice...* if you're living in the fantasy land that is new car prices, of course.

I don't think the Zephyr ever came with he 1.7 V4. They were the 2000 V4, the Zephyr 6 had the 2.5 V6 David Essex and the Zodiac had the 3000.The Granada 1 and 2 both had the 1.7 Cologne V4. Thankfully not here though. You can buy a 1.6 petrol Audi A6 on da Continent.

Didn't the Citroen Visa come with the 650cc lump?

Yes. And in Poland, you could get a Cinquecento with a clattering twin-cylinder lump too. Though that's a tiny car with a tiny engine...

Yep you could get the 'EL' model in most of europe. My Sis had one in Madrid for trekking up and down to morroco, to buy dried plants or something..
