I'll declare an interest - I own the oldest Kia in the UK, and therefore the oldest surviving exported Kia. They'd make a nice pair, no?

Whats the oldest Kia in the UK then? This sounds interesting.

 

I've got a C-reg RWD Pony 5-dr already which I love deeply but one of these quad headlight Ponys would really make my life complete and allow me to quit while i was ahead.

That Pony is truly a magical thing. Hyundai sales in the UK started in January 1982 - the first dealer was Rod Blanchard Motors of Watnall, Nottingham.

 

Where's that one registered? Nottingham.

 

The business still exists as a service garage BTW, called RBM Service. Might have records of when they sold it.

 

This does mean there is a very, very good chance it's the oldest Hyundai in the UK, which makes it the oldest in Europe, and possibly the oldest surviving exported Korean car anywhere in the world.

 

Considering how many Korean cars are now sold globally, that makes it a mightily historic little car.

There's an X reg four door around somewhere in the UK and I saw this glorious 1979 4 door in the Netherlands back in July...

There are two ways to chop a top.

 

A. So that the car looks good afterwards;

B. The way it is commonly done, and was done here.

 

To chop a top is an art. It's not cutting a section out of the roof pillars.

To do a Winfield chop on a '49-'51 Mercury requires the roof section to be cut into 19 pieces.

That poor bloody Vauxhall seems to have a Golf or Polo rear screen, with wiper FFS.
