What's behind the little door? Is it for keeping the American dream in or something?

Hey! The 4XE1 wasn't a forklift engine! It was a new lump that GM told Lotus to help develop with Isuzu. It went in the FWD Gemini and Piazza II.

The Piazza's engine was from the Vauxhall Midi \ Isuzu Fargo with a turbo up its chuff, which is probably why it's crap on fuel and hilariously unrefined. The JR120 was a right hodge-potch of shite - one of the reasons why I love it.

Top M100, mind.

I've only driven one M100. It was bloody awful.

No disrespect lad, but you think Minis are shite, so I might wait till I get the chance to drive one myself. FWD pinnacles and all that.

The dashboard looks pretty gruesome. I ticked off Cavalier MkIII window switches (which to be fair, are a push-feel click fest, I broke several on my dad's Cav rock-testing them to destruction) and mirror adjusters, Kotto air vents (that look like the same ones fitted to my Charade and K10 Micras) and various other pieces of JDM switchgear. Isuzu being Isuzu, it wouldn't surprise me if some baffling bit of Piazza perihphery found its way in there along with some nonsense from an FKR or Mega Dump.

Special fact: Non-airbag Vauxhall Frontera and Isuzu Piazza steering wheels are interchangeable.

Depends on what one expects from them. Lesser stuff like MX5s or even Pug 106/205/306 GTis are far more fun to drive than an M100, so a brief drive in the Lotus is likely to leave one unimpressed. The point of the M100 is that it can be driven very, very fast by even mediocre drivers while inspiring absolute confidence.
