eBay tat volume 3.

Almost tempting to start the South West Volvo Massiv with this.  Almost.  Especially with those seats.  I'd have expected the older style front end on an F plate though, unless I'm wrong, which I probably am.

The '88MY 760 came with this style of front, my E-reg 760 breaker has it; this red one has 940 headlights (slightly different) but looks bob on. The flat front continued on the 740 until the '90MY when it was facelifted on launch of the 940 (also for the '90MY)

I consider myself educated - looks good with that front end.  I'd be booking a train for it now if it weren't for the terrifying thirst of a carb-fed 6 cylinder 2.8 litre Volvosaurus.  Research suggests that 20mpg is about as good as you'll get!  I envy people who aren't bothered by such things but I couldn't get past that.

I always feel it doesn't say much for the confidence of the seller when an otherwise good looking car doesn't have an MOT. Unless it is an obvious basket case being sold as spares or repair surely it is in their best interests to at least spend £30 on a test? Just makes me think that it's seriously borked.

Are you not more inclined to look at the pictures and make your mind up? It hardly looks 'seriously borked', qiute the opposite

Okay, you make a fair point, but personally speaking I would never sell a car without a nice fresh MOT if I thought for one second it would be capable of getting one. The only reason I can see for selling a car without one is that it doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of passing without spending more than the car is worth anyway. If your a home spannerist with a trailer or a pre-booked MOT then, great, it could be a mahoosive bargain and more power to you!

I agree it looks great, though, I'm just a naturally cynical and suspicious person that always assumes the worst possible scenario. :)

The 2.8 should be injected... the Council Estate is so I can't imagine why the 2.8 wouldn't be. Dave's the man when it comes to six-pot bricks but I've seen 32mpg from my 2.3i auto 740s and I reckon the grey one I got from Gary is probably doing slightly better than that. IIRC Dave said his 2.9i 24v is doing mid to high 20s.

Ah, not sure where I got the carb thing from, must have my bricks mixed up.  30 would be liveable.  He's got an email now anyway but I'm also waiting for that Plymouth 740 to finish.

Hey Lazer Wheels, I've sold stacks of cars with no MOTs and would struggle to remember one that was terminally knackered, but I can remember fair few that went through with nothing or little.

I have been informed that it is not a Crusader L, it is in fact a 'Cortina Base'. I have checked the V5 and they are correct. My father had always told me it was a Crusader, probably because I had no interest in cars and would not know the difference.

Haha. Impressing your kid by lying about the spec of your Cortina.

I agree Mr Wheels. However, I think there also some folks who don't see the lack of MOT as a great obstacle because (maybe) they're used to taking their car in for a test and just paying for whatever is required to get it through. Unlike shiters like us for whom the MOT is like an annual visit to the dentist, when we've spent the last twelve months gingerly probing every cavity in our molars wondering how much it'll hurt to get it fixed.

As you say, I'm always surprised that they don't just go out an get a test on it. I think sometimes the sellers just don't seem to have given it much thought. I'd like to think this gold Volvo is one of those times. :)

I had one, mine averaged between 16 and 18, given reasonable clog.
