This could be a decent buy for someone. head change is a pretty straightforward job on these IF you can pick up a decent used cylinder head, I did a couple of them back in the day when you could pick up a minty 2600 with no faults other than a borked head (oil starvation/cam seizure/snapped cam belt) for next to nothing.

These are really starting to float my boat. This is lovely, one litre of Jewish gold raciness!

I mean just look at it, what a great shape. I would love a little project like this, I might even rape a 1275 mini for its engine

Amazing to think that in a previous life, I was part of 7th Armoured Brigade/Division (The Desert Rats) and had the impression I was in the British Army.

Looking at this Jeep it turns out my memories must be failing me, as the Desert Rats were American all this time...who knew?

As was my grandfather, plenty of stories about frying eggs on tanks and "brew ups" (nothing to do with making tea). As far as I know he was English (well, maybe a little French too)

Aha dude - a shit car!

Hmmmm, what exactly needs finishing off??

Needs full respray

and needs new vinyl roof
Bumpers need reattaching
and various other bits and bobs and recommissioning as it has been off the road for some time obviously no tax or MOT so will need towing or trailoring away

And of course those famous last words

Viewings welcome as opinions vary and i am no mechanic

Mongbay score = 11.5

Another one of these. But props for using the Vitesse as a donor instead of the usual 12/50 Herald.

What acute pair of seats!

Haha. It's worse with the roof up.

I like the post-war austerity look this one manages - so much better than a resprayed omgsoshineepaynt, new roof, seat covering and so on example, which only manages to emphasise the 'not quite right' aspects of these cars. Hell, you're not going to deliberately go out in winter rain so why not ignore the roof and spend any money on a decent tonneau cover. The Gentry roofs look iffy anyway, will make all the wrong noises from the driver's perspective and drip water like Chinese torture - best dress for the weather if it's showery.

The leather bonnet straps, buffed-up rivets, autosolled chrome, row of badges on the front and so on often look wrong on a kit.

Strangely this seller has included more pictures of the inside than the outside - and who can blame him!

Is it just me, or is it getting hot in here? No! Because it's velour!

And finally, how a dashboard should look!

£6500, looks a little like a 60s one but is an '86 Special - one of the worst years for 2cvs with rust possible anywhere. The steel was like chocolate, from the shell to the steering joints and suspension arms - something from this vintage feels as if it's made from wet cardboard after a 70s example. Wheel geometry can be miles out on the rear since they couldn't be arsed any more by 1986 - often the cause of prematurely rotten chassis, not that they needed much encouraging when made of crap steel and barely protected.

The Dyane I posted above will feel tough as old boots by comparison - I doubt very much that it has needed a new, crap chassis. But if a chassis is galvanised, the 2cv know-alls come running with notes. Even though they can turn the cars into what most of the English always thought they were.

Hah! Went back to get the link and it has sold - with 1 offer. Just goes to show, if it looks right, it'll sell. To reappear again on ebay, maybe in a couple of years, for £1750 ono. "Bought a couple of years ago and had lots of fun, now time to let someone else enjoy her". There'll be rust appearing all over the place, a set of cheap tyres to hide the uneven wear (the rack will be wearing badly if not already replaced - this owner lived up a track apparently), and bills for kingpins  - which a wearing rack will have worn at triple speed.
