Barry Bulsara Astra Stalking With A Difference.

Strange as it may sound I'm trying to track down the owner of an Astra that's run out of test so I can make a cheeky beat the weighbridge offer. Here it is...

And here's the lowdown on its current state...

Now, why do you think I'm stalking a thirteen-year-old Astra? Well because it's not a Vauxhall (British brand since 1903) and it's not an Opel either. Look closer at the badge and get a load of this.

Fuck knows how it made it to Wirral but after missing out on a Holden Jackaroo badged Isuzu Trumper that ironically lived 500 yards down the road I'm keen to get some hot Aussie action. The sad thing is I'm going to have to conduct some door to door enquiries as to find the owner who'd better be called Bruce.

Wish me luck!

Strewth!

Why would it be registered in Yorkshire? Off the boat at Grimsby docks maybe?

I'm hoping to get it through its test before shipping it off to Cavcraft. I might throw in a couple of tinnies of Fosters and a Roo sanger to sweeten the deal.

Please tell me these weren't made in Ellesmere Port.

Wikipedia says Ellesmere Port indeed.

Edit: doh, no it was the model before (a rebadged MK3 Astra) that was built there. The model pictured was apparently Belgian-built.

Wikipedia also provides the interesting facts that the first Holden Astras were rebadged Nissan Sunnys

I have seen a Vauxhall badged Astra in Australia before, I wouldn't have noticed it but it was still wearing its UK number plates under the Aussie ones.

I wonder if there is any money in raiding scrapyards for "Holden Conversion Kits" for Astras and Corsas and flogging them to Vauxhall and Opel owners?

Would anyone on here be interested in such a thing?

About 10 years ago I spotted a Holden badged Cavalier for sale in the Autotrader, it’d have been about a 94 or a 95 model. No idea what the story behind it was.

That would be a Holden Vectra from New Zealand. the MKIII Cavalier was not sold in Australia.
