1979 Repco Round Australia Trial

I've just spent the last hour watching this, an absolutely unbelieveable spectacle of rallying shite, and thought I'd share it.

 

The 1979 Repco Trial was the one-off resurrection of an event run 3 times in the 1950's. In essence, a non-stop rally round the circumference of Australia - that's 20,000km - over 2 weeks in August 1979.

 

Something like 193 entrants in all sorts of chod, ranging from the factory-backed Holden Commodores, Ford Cortinas and Volvo 242s through to heroic privateers in Datsun Stanzas, even a Porsche 924!

 

The H&S Nazis are no doubt partly responsible for this kind of endurance event no longer existing, but what a tough test of man and machine.
