Doesn't appear so?

Yes it has. See the red square.

Pre 1993 cars had the relay built into the drivers door motor - later ones used a body control module. I expect the big relay has failed, as they used to. I may* have one in the E36 stash. In the meantime I seem to recall you could remove the relay (six Torx) and put 12v and earth to the two exposed terminals on the motor.

The never ending pursuit of emissions targets and a simultaneous reduction in manufacturing costs.

Probably also that the differential in quality between a BMW and other stuff became less. In 1995 a BMW 316i was appreciably better made than a Mondeo 2.0 GLX, they’d be around the same price. Now I’d wager the 2018 Mondeo would last considerably longer than the equivalent 3 series.

Thanks for this fella. I did just that. The relay looks mint inside, zero tracking on pcb etc. but yet still it doesn'y fecking work. Tried applying 12v & neg' to motor terminals and still nowt! Pissed at this, I removed the motor housing and resorted to turrning the motor by hand so we could get the window reset in its track and properly closed. After a bit of hunting around on evilbay - mum! dad's been on ebay again! - I've found and bought the hens tooth that is an, OSF manual window regulator and winder handle. #SuperLigera BMW-BRUV! That'll show it who's boss!

In other news.

Pre-mot results are in. Faults as follows....

NSF & OSF suspension arm bushes rogered

OSF front spring rogered

NSF track rod end rogered

Back box exhaust bracket rogered

David at our local garage, Meadow Garage, likes the car and the idea of the rally, so he's kindly offered to supply and fit the parts required for MOT test and also give the motor a basic service. Obviously we bit his hand off and were delighted to accept his generous help & sponsorship. Yah dancer! :common007:  It'll go in on Tuesday for a couple of days for the repairs. Big up to David and all at Meadow Garage. http://www.meadowgaragecrieff.co.uk/

Also worth mentioning - I located the PW relay located underneath the glovebox, little blue fecker. Removed that to the bench/shed and applied 12v and it's clicking away like a good like clicker with zero resistance, so that's not the problem either. Bastid...

I remember the days when the E36 was hated and seen as the end of BMW's traditional style and quality*. The rectangle light lenses didn't help. Then the E46 appeared... That went well. I bought mine when they were on the way down and I've sold it and I've bought it back again. My opinion is that we should be grateful for the E46 as it allowed the E36 to plummet, base out and start to appreciate in a quick amount of time. Although it carries some of that old stigma it is allowing them to still be got at reasonably good prices. Weak spots are foremost rot, front suspension and low spec brake calipers. Cheap replacement parts are just that.

I drove mine down to London yesterday morning at a fast 70mph for the large part and it remains a joy to drive.

I certainly have considered hunting down a top spec coupe or cabriolet.

Minor update and victory! Managed to bust open sunroof fully using emergency manuwell Windy Miller winder option. Once fully open, mucho silicone grease was applied to the runners and outer rubber seal. Winning! It now opens and closes easily using just pure muscle power and a ratchet - no electricity required!

Also set about removing 2" wood screws used by someone unknown to replace broken door trim clips, wood screws now removed and saved for future use & replaced with proper clips and while I was there, filled in the big dirty screw holes left by using yon Supafix stuff. Mega super glue which comes with filling powders. Impressive stuff but gloves are essential and although I used the grey filling powder, it looks a bit more brown Autoshite beige in this case.

This shiny 325i also parked up across the road the other day. Thing of lovelyness. #Swoon.... Although really badly parked  they walked to the kerb from there, I guess...

Spoke to David at Meadow Garage this morning. They've found that the rotor arm was loose within the distributor which has damaged the dizzy cap, bugger. It also needs a new set of HT leads as they're badly degraded, double bugger. Parts are on order.... On the agreement that we wouldn't drive it too far, we got the car back to begin applying the decals. Will return to them Sunday night before it turns into a pumpkin.

Rally decals now applied. Man it's nerve racking taking the scalpel to a £30 sunstrip.... But the job is done and even though we say so oursels - it's starting to look like a rally car. We look forward to visiting SCAA HQ next week to show them round our wheels !

#Gibraltar here we come!

If I'm following things correctly, it only has the one wind-down window. I think. Or perhaps at this point it only has one electric window and 3 wind-down windows? Due to the 316s having wind-down rears (at least the white one does).

More base spec 316 love! :D

Would be interesting to see how the auto is compared to the manual! I though it was a laid back enough car, but the auto must make it even more so.

Also, jealous that you have BOTH fog blanks.
