spartacus Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 That looks pretty sharp. Mitsubishi make good looking estate cars in my opinion. More details please, engine etc. oldcars and chompy_snake 2
vulgalour Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Did give you a beep as we drove past but for some reason you looked behind you and not at the beep. Glad you got home okay, hope this one treats you a little better. chompy_snake 1
chompy_snake Posted September 30, 2018 Author Posted September 30, 2018 Well it's a 4g63 engine I think 2 litre petrol. I guess this is the base engine the Evo 9 unit is built on without that big snail on the front of it.It has a proper gearbox with 5 forward speeds and one that is capable of propelling it rearwards and a large window at the back that gives you a good view of the pensioners you flatten as you do so. I mean, let's face it, old people often don't see red well when they have glaucoma or whatever.... Maybe this is why there is that black thing on the bumper (safety?). It's a sport (allegedly) so it's the fasterest one unless you want to pony up for an evo. And the insurance is cheaper than a Clio 1.2. Also Speedo shows an honest top speed reading of about 120mph so I guess you feel more sporty or whatever if you try to find it's limits. Seats are mega comfy in a way only the Japanese manage (maybe it's all the rice?).I also like the car lots Exiled_Tat_Gatherer, oldcars, dome and 1 other 4

Spottedlaurel Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 I like those, they seem to be a proper estate car. chompy_snake 1
chompy_snake Posted September 30, 2018 Author Posted September 30, 2018 I think the design and seating comfort are the 2 biggest likes for me .... Engine is a bonus
the judge Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Nice motor!!! A neighbour has one, and never has any issues. Be interested what these are like
MikeKnight Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 I'd still be driving it as a daily if it weren't for the fact my R75 is better at towing and long distance, being a diesel and all. They're good cars. Good engines. Weird sounding and the rev gauge red lines at 8k.
SiC Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Has the Clio been scrapped yet? If not, could be coilpack. Also check the wiring around the ECU. If it has the silly security box on it, usually chaffed through the wiring.
chompy_snake Posted September 30, 2018 Author Posted September 30, 2018 Not been scrapped yet but just had new coil pack, plugs, battery, top gasket. Not throwing any codes and all ECU wires look alright (the 16v doesn't have the silly bracket you are thinking of). I am aware of a current UCH fault and really I think the moron that did the clutch (which is now rattling) has damaged some of the loom.It will bridge because if I keep it more money will get spent on it. It really is dead and with the new car arriving it has to go in the morning.... Also has a steering rack fault too. Shame because I liked it, but it was raced around a field for 4 months before I owned it so I'm not crying about it.
SiC Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 The 16v most definitely had the security box over the ECU connector. I had a Clio from brand new and it chaffed through after a year, my (now) wife had one 3yrs old and that chaffed through too (Renault extended warranty didn't cover it either). However I suspect/hope most have been chucked in the bin by now. chompy_snake 1
chompy_snake Posted October 1, 2018 Author Posted October 1, 2018 Think I should see where the surface rust is under the rear bumper. These bits fall out when you shut the boot haha
vulgalour Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 I'm going to go for bumper bar itself looking at those bits. That old Polo I had did the same thing until I replaced the rear bumper. chompy_snake 1
chompy_snake Posted October 1, 2018 Author Posted October 1, 2018 I think you are right to be honest. Nothing appears rusty at all so no other explanation. Edit* Had a proper look, it's just from where the number plate lights mount into the bumper. As I thought, of no concern at all =D
chompy_snake Posted October 1, 2018 Author Posted October 1, 2018 Shocking news regarding Clio disposal..... I got £200 bridge cash for it! GET IN!!!! oldcars, Tickman and They_all_do_that_sir 3
bub2006 Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 How the fuck that happened I don't know. You was in there a while so maybe sucking off the workers. chompy_snake 1

chompy_snake Posted October 2, 2018 Author Posted October 2, 2018 I thought that but not I'm not complaining. It's gone and made way for the rice rocket!
They_all_do_that_sir Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 That is shorter than the proton oddlyAnd sort of related in a very tenuous way, with the proton being based on a mitsubishi? Sent from my F3211 using Tapatalk
chompy_snake Posted October 2, 2018 Author Posted October 2, 2018 Proton in essence is a Lancer 1 I believe
They_all_do_that_sir Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 A proton with evo running gear would be fantastic fun Sent from my F3211 using Tapatalk tooSavvy 1
bub2006 Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 Nope. I keep telling chompy I'm keeping 4g15 engine and slushbox
chompy_snake Posted October 3, 2018 Author Posted October 3, 2018 Today I decided to set about the only two niggles this car seems to have. First up, clutch bleed! First shot through was very grim. Second not so bad. Final result not so bad! Used about 1/4 of a 500ml bottle to do this. Super simple mechanics on the whole despite it's complicated looks. Then we set about the aux belt replacement..... And immediately abandoned it as the tensioner seems to be both seized and broken. Will return to this job when I can afford to replace the tensioner, if the belt doesn't go first. That is all for now
bub2006 Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 Ewwww that's dirty. (do ya think so?) chompy_snake and Richard 2
