Glazing shite - weird and wonderful windows

One of the many quirks of the NSU Ro80 is the complex double curvature of its windscreen, which is slightly concave at the bottom and sharply convex at the top.

Claus Luthe got so into it that by the time he got around to designing the side windows he said oh fuck it, just stick some flat glass in.

Was it really worth all that effort?

- Of course it fucking was. Look at it :-)

What was the last car available with a split windscreen? (Pineapple vans and Landrovers don't count)

I'm so damn pleased I started this thread.

Any truth in the idea that "Boat tail" Rivieras used 64 Corvette rear glass?   Or did I dream, invent, lie  about that somewhere else?

I'm so damn behind with what I wanted to do today because you started this thread.

Round at Gran and Grandpa's, going to take them out for a nice Sunday drive.

"That's it, in you get, Grandpa can sit in the front. Yes, the dogs can come too. Maybe we'll go to the beach".

Everyone knows about the incredible wraparound rear window of the Studebaker Starlight, but did you ever notice it is the only model in the Studebaker range with a one-piece front screen too? Four door and two door saloons and even the business coupe had a split jobbies, but the Starlight (and the convertibles) got a one-piece item with an awkward peak in the centre as the sheet metal was unchanged... In '51 the whole range lost the split window

However, if we are talking real vehicles, does this in any of its incarnations count as a Car?

Probably not....if it does, then 1970.

Otherwise, my suggestion is these.....Until 1968, incredibly, only ousted by the DS420

Windows.

They’re for old people who can’t judge the length of their vehicle, aren’t they?

In the olden* days, if you weren’t chopping your Moggie thou A and C pillars to reduce your vision, you were old and past it.

Great to see manufacturers have embraced this trend of making cars look less like greenhouses ;).

. . . through the round window . . .

The urge to sit in the boot and look out of that window is immense.
