I know there is always some sort of offer on at euro car parts, nothing new there, but it's not often they knock 50% off batteries. I thought with the recent cold snap a few of us would be needing a new battery. The code is flash50.

If only I'd known this eight hours ago!  Still, I got 33% off with another code...  :D

+1

thats £111 worth of bloody huge brick for the C8 that I feel a bit burned about buying.

Going to keep the old one as it holds a bit of charge and lob it on if we end up selling the car.

They actually do 50% battery flash sales reasonably often. It strikes me as a bizarre marketing strategy though, do they think people will buy them and stash them just in case?

When I worked at Halfrauds as parts desk manager, the Halfords own-brand batteries were still made by Lucas - so we got about two returns for every three we sold. :?

Some were genuinely faulty, others... well, we'd a fair idea that they'd been bought at 7.40pm on a cold winter's night mainly to get the customer down to Wells Tyre & Battery (local low-cost indie) the next morning.

"Erm, got this battery last night mate... don't actually need it. Here's the receipt..."

In all honesty, as long as the battery came back with a recent receipt and in saleable condition (we would always test them, and charge if needed) I'd no issue with giving someone a refund. Everyone who worked there knew we sold overpriced stuff, some of which was good and some of which was crap.

Head Office switched to Yuasa for Halfords own-brand batteries round about 2000, and there was a marked downturn in faulty returns - though they still weren't wonderful.

I can't say how they'd respond now, as Halfords has gone through many changes of ownership since I last wielded a spanner in their name, but I'd say go for it - they can only say no. If you make up something vaguely plausible along the lines of "my old battery was fine, the neighbour's dog fitted a new set of brushes to the alternator and the old girl's never run better", then you've a good chance of a refund. Best of luck!

ECP prices are different every day, I can't be arsed playing the game

I've never used them before, but I've been pricing branded 063 batteries for the CJ this week and that offer saved me a tenner. Thanks again OP!
