MG ZR Wheel Stud Loose/Broken

Recommended Posts

I just changed a wheel on my Express,& thought it was taking a long time to do up one of the nuts.I managed to get the nut off again,& found the stud was spinning.I didn't have time to take the wheel off & have a look, anyone know if this will be easy to sort or a load of pain?

They just knock through and a new one pulled in with the nut and some washers. I *think* there is enough room to get it out without removing the hub.

Tack weld the stud to the hub in a couple of places once you`ve removed the wheel (as the hub flangess stud splines are likely knackered).

Its usually caused by the nuts being spun up too hard, avoid that in future, & keep an eye on how much they`re done up by monkeys at tyre places.

Good luck!

The studs are softer than the hub, and slightly tapered, so the hub is usually OK on roverz.

Ok, When I`ve had it on Jags its been the flange, not the stud, but fair enough. Either way, tack the stud to the flange & it should be fine for the foreseeable.

There is. There's a convnient notch in the hub carrier near the caliper mount that gives you enough space to wangle a wheelstud in and out.

I bet scary has a big box of studs somewhere too just like me . Every time you do a combined hub/ bearing assy - knock the studs out and keep em !

Yup. I also have a wheelnut with a sleeve welded to it for winding them in with :)
