Talbot Horizon - Ultimate shite

I would go mega-egg for either of those. AvenJa is very high on my 'to-do' list. But the utter crapness of an Horizon is very very appealing. Any car that I was 'forbidden' from buying as a 17-year-old must be truly rubbish, given that I was gifted a Skoda Estelle instead....

It's here!

I love it! Never had a more rubbish car - it makes the Samara seem positively exotic!

Have you already put some choice wheeltrims on it?I love it, especially the minimalist dashboard.

Posted

Yeah. just to hide the rusty rims til I get the wheel silver out tomorrow

Super shite!!!(Except the tr1mz, which are super shit). What do these share wheel hubs with? What I mean is how closely related to Pug 205's are they? - cos some 1.9GTi speedlines would look mega on an Horizon.

4 x 98 , so Lada, Fiat, Alfa etcTrims are my old Lada ones, I'm just counting how many people hate them!

You've got a Samara?!

Used to. It went to the great banger race in the sky. :(

NICE ONE, have you got rid of the avenger then?I am not convinced that these are 4 x 98, I think you oughta check it, I suspect they are the usual '80s French' stud pattern whatever that is. I reckon some 205 wheels would probably fit and I agree some 1.9GTi wheels would look class..

Horizon is absolutely ghastly and therefore top- grade shite. However an Avenger would win hands down in terms of an actual car.

I can understand why you got rid of it though, it did seem a bit cursed in your ownership, with the clutch/RAC nightmare killing off any further enthuiasm you might have had for it.

'Monium had a Chrysler Avenger as it was a T reg. Chryslers were the new marque name ones with the bigger lights and new dash and they come out in Oct 1976.

Talbot was a last gasp badge swap in 1980, only for a year.

I wouldn't be surprised if blokes went round all the unsold Chrysler ones sat in dealers and storage compounds, and simply swapped the badges over.

I wonder if they did that more recently on the changeover from Daewoo to Chevrolet? Probably a bit harder to make sure DVLA played ball though. :)

The Horizon has two keys, one Chrysler and one Talbot. Also the handbook says Chrysler

Super-shite! Isn't that a 1.1? Must be brick-slow.Love it! Great find.

No, the engine is quite responsive. I daren't go too quick as the driveshafts are close to falling out!

Surely you have mistaken 'responsiveness' for 'deafening tappet rattle'?
Posted

What makes you think the shafts are gonna fall out? Its a rare failure mode that one.

Posted

I mean there is a clicking noise as I corner. I've munched a driveshaft once before (Lada Samara) and I don't fancy being stranded anywhere!

Posted

Have a look at the CV boots, if theyre intact you might get away with lobbing a few spoonfuls of fresh grease in, that might shut em up for a bit longer.

Posted

No, one boot is definately split, the previous owner told me. But I have a new one. Reckon I can still shut it up? Also, if the noise is when I turn left, which side is the problem?

Posted

Two things tell me it is 4 X 98 -

The fact that the wheels look like Fiat Panda/Uno wheels.

Posted Image

And the fact that the Alfa Romeo space saver spare I have fits!

Dollywobbler -is this wheel of any use to you? Or anyone else with an Alfa?

It was given to me as an emergency spare for the Lada.

That would look lovely with a set of alfalfa 145 cloverleak alloys on it.. or Delta Intergrale wheels..

or Delta Intergrale wheels..
