So it seems all the pictures on my old thread have went all david copperfield/photobucket and are awol so heres a little update.

Over the past 4 months ive been fixing up the 305 saloon to get it through an mot, it was a struggle but i got there, nowhere near finished but good enough for an mot.

Having the pass sheet in my hand i drove off back to FOADWERX 2.0 proud that i finally got it through, nearly back and the clutch started slipping on boost. Cuntsticks, got back and when you put the clutch pedal in theres a loud creaking as well. Gearbox off methinks. After sitting for a few days the creaking takes a bit of driving to come back.

So yesterday i get to the unit and and proceed to start the 305 when mrs FOAD spots a crack in the windscreen, WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK IS GOING ON!!!!, when parked it was ok and now theres a crack right down the screen.

You can feel the crack on the inside of the screen, thoughts are that i superglued fuck out of the rearview mirror and when its been sunny and warm somethings happened and CRACK the screen has gone

On the bright side, you've got a year to sort the screen out!

They did a TD 305 or has there been an engine swap?

The engine is from an early low mileage 306 and comes equipped with a Bosch pump. As far as I'm aware there was never a factory td in a 305.

^^ That answers the question I was about to ask as well!

Look like your lovely 305 has GTX seats in, (the most superbly comfortable seats ever made).  Look even better with some nice GTX alloys.

The car came with the gtx interior, including steering wheel and the xud9 fitted, the seats are very comfortable and steering wheel nice to look at and use, gtx alloys are hard to find for sale.

I know of a set but they are going nowhere.

Have to say the 305 is a good car to drive one of the best of that time ( of the ones I've driven)

Too far away and asking for trouble to get it shipped, I'd prefer a new one (if such a thing exists)

I went to order a timing belt but hit a snag, they say there's a change over at the end of December '93 in which the tensioner is different , having no idea what year the engine came from is there any other way to find out, obviously it's an earlier one cos of teh bisch basch bosch pump but I don't know when they went to pukas

As yours has the Lucas filter housing, I'm assuming the Bosch was fitted later?

Which means it probably has the Lucas pulley to match the crank sprocket?

That's if it's the teeth on the belt that differ.

PS The display pics are going to confuse people  :-D

The maker of the pump doesn't make any odds.

It isn't a Lucas fuel filter housing, it's a standard XUD9 (post-1992?) plastic fuel filter housing. Very early ones might have come with sandwich or spin-on filters.

No engine covers present whatsoever, I've had to take a chance and order the post Dec 93 kit and hope it's right

Just an update, all parts ordered were correct and the car drove great once again and I had no worries of the timing belt letting go.

The clutch bite is pretty low and after it's warmed up it's harder to get 1st and reverse so will need a little adjustment.

Me and FOAD built up a straight through exhaust for it, it wasn't the prettiest and the route could be better but it worked, then when I got the car back the zorst was touching the (plastic) fuel tank and melting it! A few adjustments were made to get it away but will need more work

It is far too late to say this, but there is a reason folk say 'don't use superglue to stick mirrors on.' Alas, you discovered it the annoying and expensive way. Not sure what the difference is with proper mirror glue, but there must be something that stops it contracting/expanding perhaps.

Id never heard of that before, but you live and learn. It seemed to happen after the sun was shining so was probably the contraction/expansion you mentioned.
