Shitters Loan Barge Proposition

The title to the thread may seem like a random collection of words, but it has some sort of meaning.

A few days ago, I posted an Omega up on the eBay tat thread, which had tickled my fancy.

Although to most it looks like a standard mid 90s executive saloon, it caught my eye as it is pretty much identical to the one my dad had, when I was very young and starting to become interested in cars, which met an unfortunate end about 10 years ago.

I would be on the next train to Thirsk to buy it, but I have 2 problems. Insurance is stupidly expensive for it and there is nowhere on our driveway, or any relative's driveway, to park it. Renting a garage here is also around £12.50 a week too, which although not as expensive as most places, would add up to a lot over time.

Therefore, I wanted to ask if there would be any interest in a trusted shitters loan scheme for this barge if I were to buy it, in the same sort of style as the one we had here with the Lancia Y10?

I am not sure of the exact details as of yet but just wanted to see if there was any interest on here before I made a firm plan or phoned the seller to see if it is still available. It would most likely work in a similar way to the Lancia scheme, but with a huge German barge instead of a tiny Italian car, until I would be able to get a slightly more reasonable insurance quote/another parking space (most likely a year or 2). It seems to be in decent shape and had an MOT until the middle of next year, which may make it more appealing to some.

Please let me know if there would be any interest in this, or whether it is a terrible idea.

Edit: Just to make it clear, I would be buying it myself and lending it to you if this were to go ahead.

Did you buy it?? As the ad seems to have expired.

Clicked the link to see if local to me but no longer there.

Ad seems to gone, but if I understand correctly, you'd like to buy the car now and keep it somewhere else until insurance comes down a bit? If I had the space, I'd totally be up for that. However, I don't think it makes too much sense to buy an Omega B now long before you can actually drive it. You'll find dozens of similar examples by the time you can afford insurance for it, so why buy it now?

Good choice btw, I really like the pre-fl Omega Bs, especially in V6 form. Would be a cool car to own for sure.

Unfortunately not, but it has been up for 2 weeks so I assume it is a case of the advertising period being up rather than it selling yet.

I reckon there isn't much demand for it here anyway as I think many of us are already bordering on having too many cars as it is.

If there is any interest, it was in Thirsk, up for £575 and I still have the telephone number from the advert noted down, which I can PM to any interested people.

Thanks, it was just a combination of the fact it was the top of the range one, in decent condition, at a very low price that lured me towards it rather than waiting.

Not to mention, I was hoping it might be an interesting subject for a thread and be an opportunity for some shitters to have a go with something you don't really see anymore for not much of an outlay.

Nice, hope someone can help you with a spot for it somewhere. Like I said I'd help if I hadnt 3 cars in front of my flat already, also because Id be interested in seeing what these Omegas are like.

Yo Brodz. What kind of timescale are you looking at before your backside hits the drivers seat of the Omega? I don't mind looking after cars but keeping them maintained is a bit out of my reach, I can barely look own fleet let alone someone elses.

Most likely around a year or possibly a few months until storage could be arranged or insurance could be more reasonable. As such, I was hoping a few people would want to have a go with this so that one or 2 people didn't end up having to deal with it for a long time, as I feel it would be unreasonable to expect them to do so.

But thanks for the offer anyway. I would just like to see if any more people would like to bear the load so that it isn't just one person who ends up stuck with it for an extended period of time.
