good looking 2cv, there were a fair few of these on the road, some charming daily beaters

2cv Van, with a very homebrew looking electric conversion in the back - drew quite a lot of attention from passers by!

Also saw a lovely XJ-S Convertible (possibly an aftermarket conversion, with a really badly proportioned roof), right hand drive with the big rubber bumpers - could have been a late 70's model but certainly appeared to be still in regular use. And a lovely Volvo Amazon, in proper used condition, looking excellent for it. Sadly no pictures of these, or the many others spotted over the last few days...

There are loads of old motors in Amsterdam, some quite interesting.

I agree, a canal cruise is like mini shite spotting tour. Lovely city, can't get decent food though.

No Rijstafel?   Or Frikkadel  from a vending shop?   They can't do breakfast I will admit - bloody plum jam....

Haven't been there for a while so its nice to see the blue number plates haven't completely died out.   Wonder if that DS Safari was an ambulance at some point as I remember them being that beige colour.

Fibreglass roof on dem DSs, Shirley they must be reinforced with steel crossmembers though. Makes for easier customisation though.

Roof extension on DS is from its previous life as an Ambulance. Quite a number of DS's and CX's were converted as Ammbulances.

Saw that DS when in Amsterdam last year, we rented a houseboat round the corner. It had a gold 1972 Buick Electra as its mate.

You didn't look in the right place, I lived over there for a year and spent many a fine weekend in Amsterdam. Loads of great ethnic restaurants of all sorts, some good Italian places but my favourite is a superb vegetarian restaurant. Just don't eat the local food, most locals don't.

We ate really nice food over the entire weekend, had absolutely no problem. My personal view, particularly as a tourist - try not to eat at places that obviously cater primarily for tourists. It's a rule that has served me pretty well.

Also, while TripAdvisor etc can have results that end up being a bit skewed by fake/exaggerated submissions, they're a good tool for finding something decent.

Brunch here was excellent:
