uk_senator Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 I got my kids Mum a Civic 8 years ago, a long line of dependable but bland shiteboxes I`ve got her (gives me an easy life), unfortunately she had a head on with a truck in it on Monday... Now, the structure protected her very well indeed, with no cabin intrusion or passenger compartment deformation, however, the lower dash plastics shattered as her left knee hit them, resulting in her getting a nasty gash across her kneecap and a cut tendon, which will take months to heal and may well give her agro for the rest of her life, SO, if you have an old Civic, or any old car really, it might be worth reinforcing this area.. If I get her another Civic, I will be (by coating the other side of the dash with a layer of tiger seal and putting a couple of layers of ally mesh behind it.. probably). I`ll be breaking it when it gets towed back, so if anyone needs parts, give me a shout (its a 1.5 auto LS with about 85,000 miles, everything worked, even the air con!).
djimbob Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 bloody hell, hope your Mum recovers well, all the best with sorting it all out paulscavalier and uk_senator 2
Snipes Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 If I recall it's known as "EK" in civic circles uk_senator 1
SiC Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Glad she was generally ok. These weren't known for their crash safety. Later Civics made big strides for Honda in crash safety - mostly because the older one had sales flop when tested by NCAP. uk_senator 1

I am quite impressed with how well it stood up to a trucks front bumper, & if the dash plastics hadnt shattered, she would have been able to walk away, which is a shame, but she was relatively lucky she got away with as little as she did.. I dare say if I`d have done the same in any of my little Fiats, I would have probably ended up with a steering wheel in my forehead.
LessThanEqual Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Bloody hell, Civic did well there. All the best with the recovery. That's a 6th gen EK saloon, pretty rare these days. Even more difficult to find one which isn't rotten and hasn't been Barried. Might be worth getting a 7th gen hatch, loads about and the automatics are worthless. Or there is this EK hatch. uk_senator 1
trigger Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 bloody hell, hope your Mum recovers well, all the best with sorting it all out I don't think that he would be having kids with his own mum Glad to her she's recovering though, that's a hefty smack it's had. KruJoe, 0ldCh0d and uk_senator 3
KruJoe Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Bloody hell, moderns crash well, don't they? pretty rare these days. Check this spot out then! LessThanEqual, The Moog and Supernaut 3
Supernaut Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Bloody hell, moderns crash well, don't they? Check this spot out then! What are you on about? You can clearly see that's an Isuzu. The amount of badge engineering that goes on which I'm not even aware of just boggles my mind. KruJoe and Lacquer Peel 2
LessThanEqual Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Bloody hell, moderns crash well, don't they? Check this spot out then! That is fit. Didn't know about the rebadged saloon, only about the Isuzu Domani which is a rebadged MB Civic. KruJoe 1
