Shite sportif.....or not

I just seem to have bought a BX gti 16 valve, 31k miles, pretty much mint condition. I had no idea how quick these things were! 160 bhp, and seems to weigh 3 parts of bugger all. Are these things desirable, or just another example of sadly neglected French shite?

Someone on another forum I use had one and he always used to go on about them, saying they were seriously underated.

Bit of both - desirable in the same way that a 25 V6 turbo or a Marina 1300 is. That is to say, very small target market for the car as a whole, much bigger call for chucking the engine into something (205/309 GTi) else. :(

From what I can gather, it's the same engine as the 405 m16 Peugeot. The car is so straight, I'm not going to break it just for the engine, although the thought of putting a modern turbo diesel in it did cross my mind................

They're stupendous amounts of fun but sadly, too many tossers rip the engines out to stick in 205s. I'd much rather have a BX! In many ways, the BX 16v is Citroen's MG Metro.I sold mine before I lost my licence...

Wouldnt be silver by any chance would it?

I was just thinking how you never see any Metro turbos these days, I know they were pretty crap when new but any survivors will probably be getting quite sought-after. Doesn't necessarily translate into high selling prices though

Reminds me of the Calibra. They're disappearing incredibly fast. Most were galvanised and do not rust, have leather interior, and are really nice cars, but the engines always end up in Novas or Corsas. I'd hate to think how many Calibra Turbos are left, I don't know a single person that has bought one for the car itself.

What a shame, such a nice looking car.

The Calibra doea have a bit of the reverse Burberry cap image, the BX never seemed to appeal to the same bunch of mouth breathers, thank God

yeah calibras are really nice cars.. I've had a few and the only thing i didnt like was the cavalier dashboard which just looks out of place in the car.I dont understand why you would rip apart a nice calibra to put the engine in a nova /corsa... they are horrible little cars IMO

Colin if you are at all bothered about the car just be carefull who you sell it to as it screams engine donor to anyone who doesn't see it as a bit of interesting old shite.I was serious about letting me know when you sell it, cheers.
