beko1987 Posted March 19, 2017 Author Posted March 19, 2017 I enquired with a breaker about the carminat stuff, £200! I love Google maps, I'm not going to bother. If anyone needs a screen, joystick or DVD drive in unknown working order let me know!
Kiltox Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 You can unlock the car by opening any* of the doors or the boot, not just the drivers door *not the passenger front door because it's fucked If the headunit isn't working check the wiring - the live wire is very short and uses dodgy bullet connectors, I'm guessing you may have disturbed it by removing the glove box inner and prodding around in there (seriously wasn't kidding when I said not to fuck with the audio )
egg Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 6 pages on electrical faults already! Well done Beko, you're a braver man than I. I would have gone for a Mk2 Mondeo or something (which would have been much less interesting). Godspeed. Cavcraft and UltraWomble 2
Kiltox Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Also the passenger wing mirror hasn't moved in 4 months so I don't know how you've managed to resurrect it - the memory function on the key card was moving the drivers mirror before!!

Reconnected a d it works fine, I've even turned the demo mode off! I taped the connector to the loom so it doesnt pull out! I wondered why the pass door didn't work, I put it down to it only working on the drivers. Doesn't bother me as 98.4% of the time I only use the drivers door!

I push it into a stupid position and put the card in the slot, turn the engine on and it does nothing. The card doesn't seem to move the drivers mirror either, but tbh I moved it so little from your position maybe I just don't notice. The Renner forum says check 4 fuses scattered around the car, but ive not bothered with that yet

Godspeed. Its not faults, infact only 2 things that should work don't, the rest doesn't work because it's been removed! egg 1
SiC Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 It's when you unlock the car with the keyless unlocking, it'll move everything to that keycard memory position. Using the unlock on the card won't move it. Also using the unlock button on the card will disable the auto-locking - until the engine had been started and stopped again. Useful if you keep going back and forth to the car and not wanting it to relock every time.
SiC Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 The IR sensor (black bit behind the handle) is what detects your hand near by and if the keycard is in range, it'll unlock the door. It should still try unlocking if you pull the handle. There is a really weird thing that if the door puddle light is not on, then it'll ignore that door. According to the Renault Forums, some bulbs as they age use a bit more power. The door controller detects this as an over current event and assumes the door not to be working properly. It'll still lock and unlock but it'll auto lock as you walk away even if the door is open. Back doors seem prone to this. If you remove the puddle light or change it to and LED it'll fix it. Mine seem to do it on the back occasionally. I keep meaning to change to LED bulbs.
beko1987 Posted March 19, 2017 Author Posted March 19, 2017 Ooh that's interesting, I'll pull the bulb from the passenger door puddle light and see what happens!

SiC Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 To fix a key that isn't working at all (including buttons) or to get the keyless to work again? If key not working, try putting into the slot - if not it'll be a CAN CLIP time. If keyless not working, then starting+stopping the engine will re-enable the system again.
beko1987 Posted March 19, 2017 Author Posted March 19, 2017 No to re learn the memory stuff. Presuming it's not all stored on the carminat stuff, in which case that won't happen!
SiC Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Does pressing and holding the memory button on the seat when the engine is running yield a beep?
beko1987 Posted March 19, 2017 Author Posted March 19, 2017 Not tried that, will have a go tomorrow. I got some time on it today, and did think of getting the vacuum cleaner out, but decided to start... With the rear wiper and glass latch! This is the actual motor in the tailgate And this is the wiper linkage. The sticky out bit mates with the slot in the motor. The spindle was seized solid. So the wiper arm came off, but left its metal bit behind 20 minutes of being very careful with a bearing puller and big pair of waterpump pliers to clamp the puller together to stop it slipping off had that off The linkage bit came off easily after that. Much hammering later (I refitted the nut this time to prevent fucking up the thread like I did on the zx that time...) the spindle came out of the outer Much sandpaper and scraping later had the spindle drop into the outer bit and spin as good as you like, so I covered it in coppaslip And put it all back together. Once aligned properly it now works, I have a rear wiper! This has also pretty much fixed the glass not latching, the wiper bits not engaging was holding the thing out, so the latch wouldn't latch on. It still needs a slight push to close but there's a click when it does. Stupid fucking design though as you go for the wiper arm to lower and shut the glass, but moving the arm causes the bits to jam... Hey ho, I wont use it much Whilst I was there, I'd read tales of doom about a drain tube being blocked in the boot, so had a look Utterly minging but not blocked. Whilst I was there, I noticed the wiper motor sounded a bit noisy, so I had that down Cleaned off the bulk of the dried on grease and plastered it with new using a nice flat stick I found on the ground Whilst I was up there, I checked the boot switch. The terminals are starting to corrode, but cleaned up with a blast of brake cleaner Another annoyance was the switch to pop the glass had a broken tab, so hung down over the number plate. A cable tie around the inside of it, pulled really tight then pushed down clamps it in nicely Done! Happy with that, I remembered the radio didn't work. Kiltox was right, I'd pulled the live apart so refitted it and taped it together so it doesn't happen again. I tidied up these cables by wedging them under the blower motor so they stopped rattling I put the glove box inner back in properly too, no more rattles from there! Pottering around more, I glued the gear knob cap on, found the emergency handbrake release handle and did not pull it, had a look but failed to look at that phone thing in the arm rest, put the seats back up after the tip run and cleaned the electric mirror switch up incase that was the issue with the passenger mirror not adjusting It wasn't, it's fine. Hey ho. I need a rear wiper blade now though, the one on there doesn't have any rubber blade left! If a whole arm is only pennies more than just a blade I'll get one as the bit that attaches to the car is a bit mangled, but if their mega coin ill just get a blade. Roll on tomorrow morning, my first commute in it! barefoot, paulscavalier, vulgalour and 5 others 8
Kiltox Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Good job sorting the wiper out - I didn't care enough although the rear window gets very dirty very quickly so the washer would've been useful Hope you greased / WD40-ed the boot switch after cleaning it because it will get full of water and stop working if you don't beko1987 1

May revisit that then. It looked OK internally though!
beko1987 Posted March 19, 2017 Author Posted March 19, 2017 Do the foldy mirrors still fold?On their own? No, they do not
SiC Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 You move the wing mirror control all the way around to point to the bottom.
Kiltox Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Drivers mirror folds or did - only in though not out - passenger one does not.
SiC Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Uh-oh! Something else partially working that Beko will now fiddle with... beko1987 and Cavcraft 2
beko1987 Posted March 19, 2017 Author Posted March 19, 2017 Oooh it does! Didn't know the knob turned right round! Yep, passenger side does nothing... I like fiddling, I do fiddling very well. It's actual work like dropping an engine or welding that I can't do! egg 1
SiC Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Soooooo. The big question .... Right now, which do you prefer? Laguna II or Xantia?
Guest Hooli Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 You do realise these require a set number of faults present at all times? you keep fixing minor stuff & something major will explode... anonymous user, Kiltox, alf892 and 1 other 4
SiC Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 I won't deny, I'm still trying to get my tyre pressure monitoring system working on mine. Replaced 3 sensors, so 1 original and not replaced. Used to have 3 working (one was missing). Replaced them as old and stuck on. Currently none of them work - including the last old one on there!

beko1987 Posted March 20, 2017 Author Posted March 20, 2017 Oooh an ftp already... Went to leave for work, push the start button and there's a juddery sound, the dials flicker and nothing... It says parking brake fault... Might try jump starting it...
beko1987 Posted March 20, 2017 Author Posted March 20, 2017 It's not happy... Might have to stick a tenner in the xantia...
