Same shit, different year (with apologies)

Sorry guys.

I feel I have rather let the side down. :oops:

As I have just put a deposit down on this rather tasty little number:

"04" reg - that's almost nearly new :oops::oops:

Still, I like these things because they have shite, clattery DIY friendly dizzle engines (90bhp, not TDCi, not GR8 4 rep-baiting), and if this one is half as good as the last one I'll be happy.

Ideal for me for days out for work, ideal for 'Er Indoors running the kids about in, ideal for carting out dogs & their fur too.

Once the 'cabinet re-shuffle' has taken place though there should be some funds available for something really old and really grotty. Bring on the Marina Hunt! :D

Meh. I've driven worse. Like the current Focus. Bloody horrible!I have a soft-spot for the Mk1 Focus though, especially with the neater front end. I still hate Ford diesels though... :wink:

Suddenly, my purchase of a car registered in 2001 seems acceptable.

I had a 2000 reg 1.8 Ghia Estate petrol. Stunning car, got a three seater sofa in the back one day! Got rid when it inherited the "speedo drop" fault, as it was going to cost wads to fix. Was offered £2300 last March against the current Focus. Now have a 2006 1.6 Petrol Ghia Hatch, Full leather, park sensors, cruise control, electric adjust on drivers seat, heaters on both front seats, loads of toys. It's quiet, efficient, reliable, sterile! In fact just the opposite of my Land Rover. I don't think we're going to be without a Focus in our household for many years to come. It's THAT good.

I wouldn't go there. Does it come with a paper bag to put on your head whilst you are driving?

Ditto for me buying a '99 Primera! When family carrying duties, the needs of other halves etc have to be taken into account there's no shame in going for something like this. Parts availability and general ease of ownership are sometimes quite attractive. Pog, it's not like you've sold your soul and bought something brand new is it?Can you fit 2+3 in one of these then? Probably not so bad if you're not having to deal with three full-size car seats.

No sorry what's the size of the family got to do with it? Anybody's family too big for this?

Hmm, I'd be concerned with any post 2001 car with older diseasel engines - have you checked out the tax rating for it? just in case is is subject to the newer emissions thing.

The emissions tax band is directly related to mpg so diesels are generally winners.

Not so much MPG but more like emissions. Something to do with HC's or CO or something.See... It was after I agreed to buy the Vectra that the tax thing popped into my empty skull.Apparently (according to the powers that be) it's a gas guzzler so from April 2010 it'll be £245 to tax for a year.Bugger.At this point, the defence would like to invoke the "smiles per mile" clause and mutter something about petrol never being too expensive.

It's Carbon Dioxide emissions, which are directly proportional to fuel consumption.

No need! I do like the Mk1 Focus, the estate is particularly useful and in the eyes of an awful lot of people 04 is still 'old' :roll: Plus it's a nice thing to drive and a very easy car to own. I've got an 04 plate Seat Toledo which is a bit too new to be shite but it is very useful in terms of covering a lot of miles and hassle free to live with which makes life far less stressful. Even if service, MOT and bits and bobs did cost me £350 yesterday :roll:
