not really autoshite, but a rare car none the less...

The only reason these aren't shite yet is because, imo, Bangles did a great job designing them and they still look sharp. The crazy electronics with random and very expensive failures, water ingress issues, etc should make these perfect Autoshite material. Just they're not eligible yet, as if you parked one on your drive with a personal plate on, it looks like you've bought a brand new, high end car to 90% of the population.

I really dig the E60/E61 and is on my hit list. 550i would be lush, but I suspect only in my budget once/when/if fuel gets to £1.50 p/l again. Only other choice for me would be the 530i.

Aren't these 550i the thinking mans M5? Similar real-world performance but much cheaper running costs.

If it were to be retailed it would be around the '£10k mark, i wont be retailing it, so i suspect at the right auction or the right dealer/person it will do close to £8k

These touring models are stylistically lasting the course far better than the saloons which in my eyes are starting to date quite badly and look quite tired, especially diesel models which have been remapped and have their arse ends perpetually covered in soot.

My father ran a fleet of these in 530d flavour and as you say the electrical niggles and various failures make these ideal autoshite candidates. Great to drive. but they can bite you on the arse big style if you don't know what your looking for. I wouldn't kick this out bed though!

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this wasn't a mis-spec from the factory.

Dealers had to be careful to fix the spec on their build slots before it's too late. I learnt this when a science chap from Sizewell ordered. from me. a brand new 630i, in unpopular red, with a manual gearbox. Natch we had to order one, so we secured a slot and built it up. Then, a few weeks later, an earlier build slot came up, so we changed the spec on it, and Science Chap got his car two weeks early.

Then my Sales manager asked me, politely, what I was going to do with the second £72,000 630i manual in unpopular red that turned up....
