Ashes to Ashes Tonight

I dont agree, if there was another potential buyer (one of us, say) who didnt quite have the deep pockets of the TV production companies, but really genuinely wanted it because of what it was and was planning to keep it long-term, I personally would definitely take a bit less cash to ensure its continued survival, especially if I had put a lot of effort into keeping it immaculate. If it was a tatty old dog I'd be less worried about its fate, though admittedly I still found it hard to part with a sub-200 quid Fiesta knowing full well that it was likely to be dismantled for spares

I've just seen a post about this on another forum. If you watch Monday's episode on the I-player,when the security van comes out of the yard,(42.49ish)you can see a Rover 600 at the side of the road. These didn't come out until about 1993 :?

I’m no expert on filming matters or cars but I’ll have a few educated guesses in answer to a few questions raised here –The BBC does not have anything in particular against BL cars, even if they did A2A is not made by the BBC, it is made by a company called Kudos who effectively just make & sell shows to the highest bidder and it is a Kudos employed Art Dept that have the final say on which cars are used. The Princess in Ep. 2 was used because the title of that episode was called “Death of a Princess†and the car was scripted as a Princess alongside the references to Princess Margerat & Princess Di, that was a decision was made by the writers, again employed by Kudos, who may have thought that “Death of a Lancia Beta†may not have had the same ring to it!The reasoning behind using a Dolomite for the grabber sequence was due to a number of reasons. Firstly the main character would not want to trash his beloved Audi to shakedown a bad guy, so they wanted a 4 door car for him that looked like a hire car or a pool car of the period. Originaly there was a fairly lengthy sequence of fast driving to scare the character in the back pre the breakers yard scene but due to a 6 minute over run this was the first thing to hit the cutting room floor. They needed three identical cars, one to damage, a second as a back up in case of technical problems and as an interior double, and another to do the driving shots that were scheduled to be filmed after the grab scenes. As the scripts are kept secret from nearly everyone right up until the last minute the car supplier had just four days to find suitable options which was a tall order bearing in mind the timescale and very limited budget. Its a popular misconception that there is billions of pounds sloshing around these productions, that's not the case, accountants run the show nowadays and the final decisions are usually made by how much things cost. There's no dark society plotting the destruction of the british classic car, it just so happens they are readily available, pretty reliable, and above all cheap. I mean they dont often have this type of discussion on the Ferrari Daytona Forum!Rover P6’s, Cortina MK4’s, Granada’s, Cavaliers & Dolomites were all put forward to the Art Dept. Following the over use of the green Dolomite in A2A-1 as a dressing & background vehicle, orders from the Kudos top brass were “No Dolomites in A2A-2â€Â, however the Art Dept thought it would be a way of exorcizing the ever present green one from the first series and after much deliberation the producers agreed.Incidentally if you’re wondering what happened to the green one I think it’s the one camera left on it’s roof here >>

The Dolomite that was wrecked was indeed YVA 356W, and it was a nail, as you can see from the top of the rear seat back in the pic, the auto box wailed like a banshee, the rad was held together with Bars Leak & string, it overheated, had no front brakes and it was rotten underneath. The beauty of TV is that with a bottle of colour magic, an aerosol, and the right lighting almost anything can look good for a few seconds. The owner was informed of it’s destiny but was far too busy biting the arm off the buyer to show any real emotion.Yes they should have had laurel badges on the front but at the time of purchase one had a laurel, one had the long badge and the other had no badge at all so they all got what was quickest & easiest to buy.Where are they now? The grabbed one was crushed at the yard where they did the filming, the second is on ebay, and the third, which is a minter, is tucked away safe & sound and coming to a screen near you very soon!Like I say I’m no expert and this is pure speculation so if anyone’s got any better theories I’d be interested to hear them.

GAAAAAAR!Now then. I was on holiday when the last episode of A2A was on, but that was Ok as the whole series was available on iplayer, so I would just watch when I got home. Except once I got home and got around to watching it, the entire series had 'gone'.So, would anyone care to summarise what happened in the last episode for me as I'm finding it all rather worryong really. Thanks :D

From Wiki:

When an informant is tortured and killed, DCI Gene Hunt is convinced that a major scam is about to happen and wants CID to fire on all cylinders to prevent it. It's not long before Gene's gut feeling is proved right, as he, DI Alex Drake, DS Ray Carling and DC Chris Skelton receive information that a gold bullion heist is about to take place – police officers are planning to intercept the robbers and steal the gold for themselves. Gene knows this is his chance to try and put a stop to the corruption worming its way through the force. However, he needs to keep his eye on the ball if he wants to succeed. Gene's head is turned by Jenette, an attractive woman whose uncomplicated nature and simple belief in him offers him everything that Alex can't. Jenette is in danger from those planning the heist and Gene is more than happy to personally ensure her safety. Alex's increasingly strange behaviour, meanwhile, is making Gene nervous. He's not sure whose side Alex is on and this serious breakdown in their relationship is threatening to tear the whole team apart. With more messages coming from "back home", Alex is terrified that her time in the future is running out and is desperate for Gene's help. However, the truth may be too big for Gene to comprehend. Alex soon finds herself in serious danger and her relationship with Gene is put to the ultimate test in a heart-stopping showdown. An accidental gun shot leaves Alex fighting for her life. She wakes up yo find herself in present day time to find out that she is in a coma in the past...

Ha, hope they didnt get them the wrong way round and put the grab through the best one

Or perhaps they deliberately mixed up the YVA letters so as they knew which one was the real YVA :)

It had 4 really nice Mk2 transits in it, including a bullion van, that's all you need to know really :lol:
