4wheeledstool Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Nice - I've been meaning to get some of these for a while. Cheers for the link.
Skizzer Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Ordered. Happy Christmas to me. +1 on thanks for the link
dave21478 Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 yarp. I have also been meaning to get a set. Ordered.
Richard Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 You really need to buy the expansion kit as well to cover everything, the base kit comes with five spaces in the box. Banger Kenny and overrun 2
Mally Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Never had much luck with these things, find they chew the bolt up very well.
twosmoke300 Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Was gonna say that . The basic kit doesn't cover much
twosmoke300 Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Never had much luck with these things, find they chew the bolt up very well. You must be doing it wrong . I've been hung on the end of a 1/2" breaker bar and the bolts let go before they do . Awesome bit of kit . Ask DW about them on cam belt tensioner bolts Banger Kenny 1
Richard Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 They work best if you use the right size, and ideally before you've buggered the bolt up too much. You can choose the expansion set from that link, and it's at quite a good price too.
twosmoke300 Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 That's unlucky . I did know someone that snapped a snap on one doing manifold studs .It exploded and holed the radiator . What he didn't tell the snap on man was he had it on a half inch impact gun ! Snap on paid for the radiator tho !
overrun Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 With the expansion kit, I believe they are the finest tool man can own. They have never, ever let me down* *I also own the wanky little hex drive ones and managed to snap one of those, plus they have never worked. Like night and day compared to the 3/8 set! Banger Kenny 1
fordperv Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 That's unlucky . I did know someone that snapped a snap on one doing manifold studs .It exploded and holed the radiator . What he didn't tell the snap on man was he had it on a half inch impact gun ! Snap on paid for the radiator tho !i snapped it with a 1/2 drive ratchet trying to take the remains of a snapped bolt out, i mustve come over all charles atlas
dave21478 Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 ...., i mustve come over all charles atlas Fnar, etc. Why did nobody tell me about a fucking "expansion set" before I ordered them? I would normally have a right old rant/moan about blahblahblah etc......
Des Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Smaller sockets and hammers not good enough anymore? How the other half live eh? The Old Bloke Next Door, overrun and Banger Kenny 3
Dead_E23 Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 The 5 empty holes in the case does feel a bit of a swiz, but these work so well that I plan to buy the expansion set next time Amazon offers me a blinding deal on it. I last used mine to undo some fairly inaccessible nuts behind the rusty rear crossmember of my Land Rover. Even though they were just blobs of rust, it did it with very little fuss. overrun 1
Richard Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 You can choose the expansion kit from the link in the OP, at as good a price as you're likely to get.
Dead_E23 Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 I got offered a much better price via my Amazon phone app a couple of months ago; they sometimes make tempting limited duration offers on stuff from your wish list. I have re-added it in the hope they'll try again.
drewd Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 I've had a fair bit of success with these, but not the 100% I was hoping for. They have worked well on knackered allen bolts (VW rear caliper carrier bolts, which are usually tighter than a tight thing), and on steering column shear bolts! I bought the expansion set last year when they were on offer, and may well grab these as a present for someone!
Noel Tidybeard Posted November 27, 2016 Author Posted November 27, 2016 the expansion pack can be got from toolstation for about 20 of your earth pounds
