Changing keeper in log book

Before I take my life in my hands before trying to ring the DVLA on Monday, does anyone know the answer to this?

 

I want to transfer one of my 405's into Mrs_Carlo's name, but we'll still be driving it and obviously need it to be taxed.  Reading down the V5 logbook it says whenever they receive a change of owner the tax is refunded to the 'seller', which presumably means we have to re-tax it just to keep using it (and no doubt lose a portion of tax in the process.)  Is there any way to keep a car continuously taxed and change the keeper?  It will be at the same address.

Nope, but if you wait until the last day of the month you will at least avoid being stung for an extra months tax.

Could you get away with just chaging the name, without changing the keeper? There is the option to do this on the V5C. Just tell DVLA that you changed name by deed poll if anyone asks.

Yes I would check this. Your insurance may not mind (check first though obviously).

They've asked me if the car will be in her name, presumably this means it has to be for the insurance to be valid?

Meh, they never check. Their concern is that it's registered to some banned driver 200 miles away. I'd say it's in your name, it's likely to make bugger-all difference.

As I'm a dodgy bastard I never have anything of value in my name and have never had a problem with any insurance company or even the local authority licensing dept.

The only downside was that when my Chrysler got written off Mrs N received a cheque in her name for £9,000 even though it was insured in my name. Luckily I managed to get the money out before she spent it on shoes and tea towels and kittens etc, or whatever women spend money on.

Meh for donkeys the main car in the house was registered in my name but insured in the missus name.

 

Insurance companies dont really care so long as you tell them and its your spouse.

Couldn't you not worry too much about the name change until the end of the month and then do it?  Only two weeks off.

I've had insurance where they asked if it was registered in either mine or my spouse's name. they didn't care which.

 

I'd ring them first, and DVLA if you have to.

DVLA open until 2pm today if you need to ring them.

Would avoid ringing the DVLA. They won't  be worried about saving you tax.

Sort the best way for you and do that.
