RustyNuts Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Hi guys! I swapped the safrane engine recently as most of you probably know and when I started it, it was rough as hell and badly misfiring. The first thing I suspected was the injectors as I'd not covered the ends of the metal fuel pipes and it had been stored for 3 years. Spiders love little holes like that... So I swapped them over for the set from the HGF engine and the engine started perfectly. Now this leaves me with a bit of a problem because those injectors are all (thanks to a twat of an engine mechanic) missing the plastic piece in front of the rubber o-ring. They work and the engine runs but I've always been a bit concerned that it's asking for trouble. The dead injectors have the plastic piece... but they can't be removed and I can't get new ones from renault either for the working injectors. Now I suspect that a few spiders, etc got up those fuel pipes, shed a few skins etc.. and when I've hooked up the suck n blow juice, it's probably carried all that crap directly into the injectors and blocked them. Obviously being a good set with the plastic ring at the spray end, I'd prefer to use them. Any ideas how I can unblock them please? - Or might they simply be completely dead after 3 years with rusty springs inside etc? Thanks again, Rusty
Mr_Bo11ox Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Send them off for ultrasonic cleaning, I think that's probably your only option. Its not hideously expensive, I had my Argenta injectors done.
Dave_Q Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 This guy was highly recommended on another forum I used to use. http://injectortune.co.uk/Injector_Cleaning.html
steveo3002 Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 £12.50 each to clean or youtube suggests a tin of carb cleaner and a torch battery ?
Dave_Q Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 The injector holes are about 0.2mm or something, have you got anything that small to poke down them to clean them out?
RustyNuts Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 No I have nothing that small... but I was wondering if they can be flushed backwards? - eg voltage applied to open them and then cleaning fluid sent in the reverse direction from the nozzle to the inlet?
beko1987 Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 have you tried driving it? They_all_do_that_sir and Eddie Honda 2
steveo3002 Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 id not go poking things in the end if money is too tight to send them away then soak in solvent and try the youtube methods
RustyNuts Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 have you tried driving it? Nope - it's still up on stands... but I don't really see what that has to do with some blocked injectors I have sat in the garage???
tooSavvy Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Reverse Flush... Thinking Outsde Box. Pity you couldnt rustle up a steel block with suitable threadding... using an engine 'oldskool' with a pompe boschh... connect the 'inter block' to the pressure IN injector side pipe and screw the Injector in the other end (facing the Injector Pump Pressure) Run the motor and battery click the injector OPEN... Some force going backwards up your Injector?? ... as you were... TS
Dave_Q Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Honestly just send them off, anything you can rig up at home will give poor results IMO. 12.50 each means 50 quid for the set of 4, that's for cleaning and I think I'm right in saying that guy has an injector flow bench and sends them back with a before and after report. You could easily spend £20-30 faffing with lotions, potions, batteries and scrap tubing, and be no better off. The Moog and RustyNuts 2
RustyNuts Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 It's a 5 pot so it'll be £62.50 for me then (humbug). But I think you're right.. I'll have to get it done by someone else as the last DIY thing I tried to do (that load leveller) cost me a fortune in chains, shackles etc
sierraman Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 I wouldn't fuck about with attempting to clean injectors at home. It's not something that fails on petrol, I'd see if you can find a second hand set
RustyNuts Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 No chance of that... I do have a 3rd set but they're also missing their o rings and plastic fittings on the end, haven't been used since 2011 and were also kept unprotected. Stupid thing is that renault no longer make the plastic rings available but they still sell the o rings... tossers. It's not just the public they let down but also their parts depts who have a seriously hard job to do.
SiC Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Being a Volvo lump, are they not similar/same from Volvo?
beko1987 Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Nope - it's still up on stands... but I don't really see what that has to do with some blocked injectors I have sat in the garage???it doesn't, I was being funny/taking the light piss! Id send them off, unless soaking them in brake fluid works or summat RustyNuts 1
RustyNuts Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 Being a Volvo lump, are they not similar/same from Volvo? Thats one of the minor differences unfortunately... well at least from photos i've seen of the 850 setup. Must be said i've not seen an 850 in the scrap yard to be able to check to be honest.
SiC Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 Part numbers for cross referencing with? (For looking on eBay/Amazon/etc) http://m.mister-auto.co.uk/en/injector/bosch-0-280-155-746_g3905_a0300!280!155!746.html RustyNuts 1
RustyNuts Posted September 23, 2016 Author Posted September 23, 2016 You young man are a total fucking legend! Why didn't I think of that? (don't answer that lol)
