Mr Mercrocker, have you been to G&R Harris?  It is an old style yard - and very friendly and helpful - though the oldest cars are around 25 years, not more.  But worth a visit if you need anything (and the owner told me that they are struggling due to the price of steel, so we should try and buy from them what we can).

Cheers, no I haven't been there (at least not in my failing living memory) but I shall keep them in mind and have bookmarked their website....

G&R Harris yard is about 10mins away from me, it's a good old fashioned yard where you can walk around and take bits off yourself. I've not been for a few years but last time I went there were a few classics there, one being a S2 XJ6 2 door. I got my Capri chrome door mirrors and bumpers from there too.

The Austin Bambridge 4042UR  lasted until 1984. I had a Mini 4690UR, also early 1962.

I love how they used to name cars after really naff places. The Quiashqui (however you spell it) would so much acceptable if it was called the Nissan Newbury.

Deatons Metals at Staveley usually has a good selection of old tat.

All at reasonable prices, not.

£35 for a clutch master cyl for an E28 520i? Not when they're under £20 brand new at ECP thanks.

I've always found them very reasonable. Paid £15 a few weeks back for a wiper motor and armature. They mustn't have liked you!

Which one did you get? The older guy with the beard or the younger chap in his early 40's?

Old John is very variable on prices, from reasonable to HOW MUCH!!!

The younger bloke started off selling stuff cheap but has been on the training course.

I presume it has indeed gone but I will look next time I am down that way.   I have a few photos I took around the same time as you lived there - must try and scan them onto here.

It was probably the last old school yard I used to be able to amble around with a camera.....

Is that the one up Claypigeon? If so it's still there ( I hope it is as I'm going there in the week to find some bits for the 206).

I've been going in for years, so I think if your a known face he'll not charge the earth. Not far from your end I gather but did you ever use Hardys at Dunston in Chesterfield. Used to be really cheap, friendly guy that ran it. Somebody else has it now still a good breaker. Doesn't do much Ford stuff now mostly European stuff.

I've been to Hardy's once or twice but it's quite awkward to get to.

Went there in January, needed in desperation 4 alloy wheel nuts as 'someone' had lost the key. Guy running it said just take 4 of them didn't charge! I'd use it again but as I say he doesn't keep in what I'd use. Still there's occasions when I'm asked to get hold of something might come in handy.
