Some shiny shite spotted at local steam fair.

I felt the urge to lick the Ventora.

I have a hankering after all Vauxhalls powered by the 3.3 litre six. I found the hubcaps especially tasty.

I like most cars pre 1975 if they're original and unmolested. RS2000's and Mexicos are a bit boring but this really was a beauty. Anyone know which company did these for Ford?

There are several mint or near mint 164s about, a lot considering how few are on the road. This one was new to me and left me feeling mine is a bit...shabby. JRG too 😉

Certainly no shitter, rare and very pretty. An MG YT, open version of the YA saloon. This example is a little tart, lovely old, original paintwork and no silly wire wheels etc. It would be great to have a drive in it.

Many people seem to have a bit of a downer on the Avenger; I've always thought they were a nice design with some of the better elements of American car styling in European form. This example is super original with great paintwork and chrome, far better looking than a mk3 Cortina.

Another really original car and one that's on my want list; a Mk1 Zephyr. More lovely old cellulose paint and cared for chrome and leather.

I much prefer the mk1 to the finned mk2 and gawky looking mks 3 and 4. The arse is similar to the Westminster which I also like.

A rare sight, unless perhaps you're in Narfolk.

It winked nervously at me as I walked past and then just stared. Honestly.

That Ecky camper is an "Elba" by Dormobile (Martin Walter) and is similar to their Bedford Beagle conversion.   One or two others were available like the Nimbus but I think that only had the roof popup and not the foot tent at the back....

Posted

Didn't know these were available from the factory. Several were there, all of which appealed to me.

Want factor goes off the scale for this Lil charmer. Let's hope the owner does not molest it.

I've seen her before but not got around to papping the beastie.

Unusual one, an Auto Union. Two strokes, three cylinders I'm thinking? Like a DKW?

A 'DB'. A 'Deutsch Bonnet'. Thought it was an A110 Alpine, I was rong! Research needed.

Another rather maligned car. Arguably the most attractive Citroen has built. I go to South Cerney steam rally most years; I'd say it's one of the largest still going and well worth visiting. In the 6 hours I was there I looked around the stalls and cars and motorcycles, I didn't even manage to see the lorries and steam powered vehicles.

Love the Ventora and Volvo 164!

Also like how you have included a bit about each car, give a bit of insight to the photo.

I'm not really into collecting 'automobilia', I've quite enough tat choking up the house as it is; I did purchase these though, as they are a bit unusual and I do like Roy Axe designs...

Those would look nice on a plinth. I have an early Avenger badge that I bought from an Irish rag and bone man in Montrose years ago. Always meant to do something with it.

Posted

I've had a few badges/emblems over the years. Most of which I've sold or given away but those two just really appealed to me. I think you're right, mounted on a block of mahogany, upright they'll look fab!

Thanks for the photos and the write-up, too. I'm with IainL on that front. I used to be all about the no mods school of thought but am mellowing with old age, though of course all modifiers still should consult me as to what is and isn't appropriate, of course. Did you get any photos of old folk in garden chairs sitting behind their steeds? Always a favourite feature of any car meet for me.

I had a black Ventora II, bloody thing used to use more dextron 2 than petrol, & it used to use more than enough of that too.. I got it as a PX against a Talbot Samba LS in red with grey crepe paper trim..

He`s got the wrong badge on that, should be a big one about 4" square, & the grille vanes should be grey (sorry, got a bit geeky there, I`ll get my coat).

....and some more shite, this time at 'Retrofestival' near Newbury. Not my cup of tea really, lots of immaculate, finned '50s Yanks, well you get the drift...

Continuing the Vauxhall obsession though, the Viscount is a car I like very much, especially one as clean as this, 2 speed Powerglide in this case so pretty rare. Pretty rare he changes gear too!

Yep. More Vauxhallness!

This Victor is bloody marvellous. It had no wob on it, largely original paint and a punk era, furry seat makeover. What a survivor; I hope it stays as it is!

Unloved Vauxhall. Guess these Royales were made in Krautland on the Monza line, nowhere near Luton.

Not keen on Jaaaags...but I do like an understated early XJ6, they were a superb, world beating design when they came out in '68. OK, less than stellar reliability then.. The mark 1 is best but this early mk2 with Pininfarina boat is very original and cared for.

Pretty rare beast and very '40s American looking with it's split screen. Not a car I know anything about so I shall research a bit!

I imagine the Greek Geek was behind it's design?
