Buy it for £40 and put it straight over the bridge for instant profit. Then buy a 1980 Allegro for your wife.

Has the head got that bloody stupid rubber block on it for the oil filler cap?Get a flathead underneath a seam and pull like fuck. It does come off, does try not to put the flathead through your thumb like I did.

I did an engine swap on a Punto a month or so ago. Mates wife has had one for years and it's blown the head gasket loads of times. As luck would have it, the shabby green Punto Selecta I ended up with had a brilliant engine but a knackered autobox.Put the Selecta motor into the other one, and also swapped the brakes, wheels, anti-roll bar, radiator and power steering over. Mates missus is now well happy as she's got the same Punto she's had for years but now it handles like a Sporting and goes a lot better. In total it cost her around £300 and two days or so to do the full swap including new pads, fluids and all the other little bits you always forget about. She got loads of spare lights, window motors, wiper motors, central locking solenoids and a spare set of wheels.Puntos are an absolute piece of piss to work on as long as you're dealing with major bits. The minor, fiddly bits tend to be a ball-ache.

£40 is very cheap but that's because it sounds like a heap of trouble TBH. Unless you know about Fiats or know someone who does, I would avoid.

I can't see how you can go wrong at 40 sheets? I spent more than that on a curry for 2 last night

I've never worked on a Punto so cant comment on its fixability, but the thought of getting involved with a P-reg one with a popped headgasket sounds as appealing as shoving hot corn cobs up my ass at 5am every morning for a month.

ALWAYS skim the head....."Fire" engines are prone to this thing going off. It will likely be at No.4 End through to a water jacket. Get a good gasket, the cam belts are cheap, the whole thing is a piece of piss to do, and I reckon about 4 -5 hours in all for a first time would be enough to get it done. Probably get change out of £100 to do the whole job. Buy it, fix it, run it, enjoy it!
