Xantia of Desires - Farewell xantia!

Ah mine failed that bit quite badly then!

I'll get the exhaust fitted, move the throttle cable 2 notches and see what it chucks out when revved with no load and go from there then. It wasn't smokey once warm this morning, and I caned it up to 80/over 4.5k in 3rd onto the M40 up the hill before stokenchurch, had to turn the rad fans on to bring the temperature down a bit so it was working hard.

I helped Chompy take the protective metal shell off the fuel pump to allow for tweaking, which required judicial use of a hammer and cold chisels.

So I apologise in advance.

Apologise for what? Saves me having to do it! If I feel I need to once the new exhaust is fitted I'll rotate the LDA thing anti clockwise a bit and see what happens, will mark the original position though incase it makes it worse!

Just checked in on Beko's xantia thread! Tell him under no circumstances turn the LDA PIN!!!

It's only got a growing on 1 side. If he turns it he WILL fuck the pump!!I

That is what the pin looks like in it so turning it will achieve nothing but jamming the fuelling pin up in the pump!

All he needs to do to get it through emissions is to bring up the star wheel (turns with a small screwdriver) and knock the max fuel down a bit.

The star wheel is visible when you take off the top of the UFO part of the pump and withdraw the pin

Just received this message. Hope it helps

Bub getting a message. :D

It came from the other side. Was very hazy but I did the best I can ;-)

Bring it to me if you are struggling dude.

You been here before haven't you?

Very kind offer, if I struggle I might just do that!

It's a bit of a pain as Amy's working friday and saturday night, but luckily I have Friday and Monday off work, so aim to get it sorted on Friday, and back in for the test on Monday. However if it's still not great smoke wise on saturday I might give you a shout, sure someone can have the children for a few hours

Also, can you weld? I need a tame welder next year for the rear arches, only needs a 'fuck off rust, not 100% pretty' repair on both sides

Posted

At the very least then we shall meet up next year!

Failing that this weekend very last minute!

After extensive testing on the way home it smokes a bit when cold, but not once hot, apart from when I dropped down to 20mph in 3rd then accelerated not particularly quickly up a slight hill, but even that was just a puff of smoke as it went past 2.5k.

It pulls like a bloody train at over 4k in 4th though!

I think, if the wastegate is able to be manipulated, to pretty much close it off for the test. Should get all of the boost.

Posted

I don't know how to do that! And I don't really want to to prat around trying a d mess it up

Let me see if I can come over at the weekend! Probably feel odd for you to 'de tune' a fuel pump!

Posted

I have a manual boost controller here we can fit. Don't reckon we'll need it, plenty of adjustment in the pump.

Also, i would say, before fettling any further with the starwheel and such, make sure you know where you started from.

Makes going back a lot easier.

Any emmision related problem is a half hour and a few turns on a few screws away from a pass. Even on a modified pump.

Mine have always passed, even with modified governors, ground LDA pins, bigger Delivery heads and huge, slow spooling turbos.

Heck, even chucking a load of veg oil in would help.

All I've done is knocked the main fuel screw down half a turn, so we can start from that easily enough.

Ive not got any veg, and can't really afford to get any either at the moment.

Ill Wang the new exhaust on if it comes in time and see how it is

Moar actual progress will hopefully happen at the weekend providing all the parts turn up!

Meanwhile I'm researching very important things, like how to strip and clean the boot light switch, fitting leds to all the interior lights and the sticky drivers door light switch!

The action turned up at 08.50 this morning, and by 11am I had this

post-5612-0-84146600-1481297415_thumb.jpg

Big hole blown in the weld just before the cat case, which probably explains why it sounded quite shit. The new one went on very easily, all fitted perfectly and sounds silent! It's bliss.

Gonna ring the garage up in a bit and see if they can have it in tomorrow for a re test

Its alot easier to fit an exhaust to a 1.9td xant than a 1.9td zx, loads more room to get to the tops of the bolts and then hold everything in place. One of the spring cups had seized onto a bolt, which is why that bolt was always loose. Bfo screwdriver from the top had that off, and it all nipped up nicely on both sides

Posted

Good arrows.

BTW no changes should be neccesary to the wastegate, that's not the reason it doesn't boost when stationary.

The WG will be fully closed anyway when revving at the test centre, it doesn't make much boost because the engine's not under load and it doesn't take much fuel to rev with no load.

Posted

All I plan to do now is loosen the throttle cable a noth or two so it wont rev as high, then drive to somewhere pointless before the MOT then to the mot place, maybe stopping around the corner for one last redline, then it's down to the shite gods I think!

Would the big hole have affected the readings at all?

Posted

Good luck for tomorrow. I would guess a holed exhaust would affect the reading yes. Plus the new one will be clean and not sooted up.

Posted

I've not managed to get it booked in yet, they haven't answered the phone the 4 times I called (granted their probably working in stuff). Will try and pop over tomorrow.

Seat is alot better, all the securing bolts on the frame were very loose, it still flexes a bit, but only within its own mechanism, and to the same level as the meriva drivers seat does.
