Sadly, another Shitehawk had beaten me to it:

Hey that's still got Denovo wheels on it; wonder what the tyres are.

Interesting Sierra variation with a Sapphire bonnet / grille combo on the hatchback version!

Yes, alfisti, but yours is a work of art. Mine's just there to get on the neighbours' tits.

And that Mini will no doubt be in situ for the next few decades & someone in Oxford could go & enquire about the tyres, Mash.

Anyway.

Here are a few classics:

There are some nice Asian men who collect Japanese muscle and leave it parked around Cowley. At great personal risk of them noticing me taking pictures & me getting a kebab slicer driven through my liver, here are a few examples:

This beautiful Capri was photographed with the owner's consent, so they kindly kept the Staffordshire Bull Terrier on his chain:

Although the jeep that once went with them seems to be long gone, these delightful jerrycans are still standing around in front of a scruffy house near here:

A CPTC for everyone...

It might be beautiful but the name you're looking for is Escort!

(you'd certainly want to get that right if it was your car & you were looking for 10 large on eBay!)

That Beetle looks smart - seems so new at X reg.....when did they cease??

The "Capri" is a Mk1 Escort (Get yer money out)I have a 1989 Sapphire 1.8L with a hatchback long beak bonnet and lower grille for headlamp washers off a 4x4!!!! And it's all the right colour too! Just need to fit the "road tested" doors aswell (Also white with correct rubbing strips.)

Is that the only reason variations exist because of accident repairs, basically post production modifications? They wouldn't have left Dagenham like that would they?? :?

Is the right hand CPTC a Cortina estate MkIV / V ?

Posted

Not mine, I paid 20 quid for them bonnet, as a PX for my Rotten Bonnet and early plain grille. (Apparently hard to find according to the Sierra breaker bloke) I was just happy to get a bonnet that stayed shut and didn't slice your fingers................

Posted

Er...I mean Escort (at least nobody noticed that the dog was a Rottweiler).

Pre-'78 Beetles were Made in Germany. They went on producing them in Mexico & Brazil until the 1990s. The 'New Beetle' is, of course 'a Golf in a crinoline', as some wag (not Clarkson) put it.

Not sure about the Tarps, but you Ford experts can no doubt lift the veil.

Didn't all the TD Sierras have the grill front end?
Posted

I've seen plenty of P100s with grille or no grille

My 3 model Sapphires all have the hatchback bonnet arrangement :?: Must be a German-market thing.

Hey KGMan, is that hoard of KGs at Martin McGarrys (or are YOU he?) or is there someone else mansfield-way with such a collection? :)

Yup, MMcG's KG Works, the very place. That picture was a few weeks ago; but there's usually something for sale there if anyone's after a sexy car, or if you've got one that needs work or a refurb. Here's another shot with me visiting:

I don't know if they called them "Sapphire" in France, but all the Sierra saloons I've ever seen over there had the same bonnet as the UK hatch/estate. Except the RS Cosworth of course. They also had facelift 3-door hatchbacks which we didn't get.

I used to abuse his good nature all the time - my ex had a 1303 and lived in Edwinstowe, he was the best local VW-minded mechanic so used to get the job of looking after it and as a result, I used to take my 1303S there too. Good chap, I remember ringing him in a bit of a panic one evening when my handbrake cable snapped - bearing in mind he was by this point importing a lot of stuff from sunnier places, he wasn't at all annoyed by every bolt being rusted, the locking wheelnuts being keyless, and everything being coated in rust and mud. Thought he was moving over to Porsche stuff, good to see he has a lot of KGs still around.

One shabby old Porsche that you can see in the corner of that last pic, but Martin McG remains your man for KGs. Hardly any being imported these days, but they still come up for sale, sometimes when the deluded owner (usually a doctor in Brighton for some strange reason) 'upgrades' to said Porsche. Nearby ones often come back to Mansfield for servicing and new interior fittings, but he still sells them to people all over the planet.I'm excited because mine's just going in for a WORKING CLOCK, a rare & wonderful thing in a 40 year old Ghia! :D
