Ford stereo question

How would one go about obtaining the code for a late 80's ford stereo?

Due to battery disconnection some years ago the stereo is locked.

There is no sign of the card with the code on it.

Every ford radio I've ever owned has had the code written on the actual unit

Failing that you can 'decode' it from the serial number I believe

I will purchase some din E extraction tools.

4x round holes? Use a wire coathanger or 2x small screwdrivers.

If it's the flat ones, pick on your least favourite debit/credit/store card and cut to shape.

Having removed unit there appears to be a three digit code - however the unit does not have the flashing bars to put the code in - they are fixed, pressing the buttons does nothing.

Despite never trying to sort this it appears to be permanently locked.

There appears to be 465 written on a label. I have written down the serial number in case the code does not work.

I would suggest getting the code from the serial number, I don't think you get too many more goes once it stops flashing.

1 1/2" panel pins work perfectly & I have loads due to being in the middle of a cottage restoration.

Wasn't there some urban myth that if you put them in a freezer for an hour, the code came up on the display?

Yeah I know, like I said it was something we used to believe years ago. cant be true surely?

I've tried it with exactly that model of stereo. It is, as you might have guessed, bollocks. Even in the UK nights can get colder than a freezer in the winter.

After a couple of hours the display flashed unfortunately the code on the radio was wrong.

I have obtained following details from the unit -

Ford 2007 model

J0016174

89 AB - 18K876 -AA

0001454

Not sure which, if any, are relevant.

It's this number

If that's J0016174 the code should be 601 or if it's 0001454 the code should be 982.

Doing some tinterweb research it's the J number - however I will give it a whirl tomorrow.

I think the issue is many of the internet apps do not cater for stuff that old.

Thank you for your help - I will let you know tomorrow.

Unfortunately neither of the codes worked.

Any ideas?
