Brake consumables

Need to do front discs and pads on Mondeo, seen loads of Mintex sets on EBay, why are there so many selling that brand? Are they likely fakes? In any case I'm putting some Pagids on.

I put Mintex discs and pads all round the Outback and on the back of the Landcruiser, you're all doing very well as young Mr Grace might have warbled, seem genuine enough to me.

 

Got 'em via ebay firm called e-spares down Cheltenham way, i've also dealt with them directly but can't find the bloody details now.

 

Around £134 delivered for 4 discs and 8 pads for a Scooby Outback is bloody cheap.

Are Eicher discs and pads that bad? I've heard a lot of shit reviews on Pistonheads, saying they were cack on their 312hp Citroen Saxo. For normal driving are they any good? I've fitted them to other people's cars but they were paying for the parts and just wanted the cheapest, I've never stuck them on my own? I don't tow or go down the snake pass in 5th sat on the brakes so how bad might they be?

Just remembered I put some Eicher pads on a Fiesta years ago we had and they clanked like fuck in the calipers. Question answered. On the plus point for pagid, I've used them several times and they've been good. I do think though the trick with successful brake replacement it's down to stuff like a clean hub surface and greasing the sliders. You can put Bosch on and fuck the lot up with a half arsed cack job where you haven't followed procedure.

Discs and pads trom Mintex fitted all round on the Polo Tdi and BMW Z3 2.8, both had brake vibation after a couple of months. Not for me next time.

Pagid and eicher aren't great tbh . I've always used APEC and must have fitted hundreds if not thousands and never had a bad one .

Standard Mintex are ok but just ok, their 1144 compound is amazing. I use it on all my classics and it will surprise many people - it stopped my old mini so fast that a mate VERY nearly merged with my rear end, combined with Yokos in 008 soft flavour you could almost invert the car with standard discs and calipers.

I've heard the mintex racing pads are very good . Tempted to put some in the Saab

I found eicher very squealy and not exactly confidence inspiring, but also very cheap.

1144s now say 'not for road use' on them but that is just down to a change in what is allowed in brake pads. They do squeal like a pig though.
