Ahoy

I'm looking for somewhere that will sort out the wheelz on my GS. All the usual suspects round here want to powder coat them in the latest super shiny funky shades all the Kool Kats round here have.

I'm looking to get my wheels done in a satin finish light greyish white. This does not seem to be a colour they stock. If they did this colour I bet all the Kool Kats would want it too!

Anyone know of anything?

NBC Dove grey. The colour of bus wheels of the 70s

I used to have a big pot of it and all of my early cars had that colour wheels.

Paint?

Sand, clean, prep, prime and then a few top coats, lightly keying between each coat.

You could if you were bonkers enough stove haden them too.

Wait till the other half goes out though.

Yes, dove grey is more or less the shade.

I can't be arsed doing a DIY on this. I done my BX alloys after a supposed pro place done the shittest shit crap job . it was a mega ball ache messing around with removing the tyres, paintstripper then gassing myself with etch primer. Never again!

I don't mind paying actual real money for this as the rest of the car will be pretty bang on when it's back from being painted.

Where are you based? Automec in Boness are keen on working with older cars and their body shop does a very good job in wheel refurbs.

I suppose that would have helped! Cumbernauld, but Bo'ness is not too out the way if needs must.

Have you tried P+J Powder Coatings in Thornliebank Industrial estate? They come highly recommended.

Yes! How did you guess that. It's with Elders.

I had a look on their website. Looks like they can do a far wider range of colours than the wheel only type places. Only stumbling block is that they may not be able to remove & refit tyres. I may give them a call and find out their prices.

Saw it when I dropped a car off for some work:)

It's been in since just before Xmas. It's being done between other stuff to keep costs down. Don't know when you seen it, but it's a bare metal job. Not been in for a few weeks so may pop in on Sat and see whats what.

Yeah saw it just from afar. I have a CX that is well on the way to being 1000 bits

CX's are fine cars. Have fun pulling it to bits. Just keep a hold of all bolts etc as some are funny sizes such as M7, M9 etc.

The fun will start when. I get the GS back.
